« on: January 06, 2014, 02:44:11 PM »
Has anyone had an ovarian cyst? I have had one which the doctor thinks has burst as I have been in pain for a week.

I have. When I had it, my gyn felt it upon exam. She told me the vast majority of the time, they are nothing, and told me she thought mine was nothing. She did, however, send me for an ultrasound, just being cautious. Mine was painful for quite a few weeks, maybe even over a month. Funny, too, because by the time I had the u.s., the original one was gone and I had one on the opposite side, from which I felt no pain. If you have the Mirena IUD, which I have, you're more likely to get them.
Hope your pain goes away soon.

Thank you for your reply.  The doctor did not tell me a lot and just said the pain would go eventually.  Its more of an ache now, like I am bruised.

Did your Dr feel the cyst during an exam? I'm sure the pain will go soon. It takes a bit of time though, so don't worry. (like I did)

I've had an ovarian cyst too. I've had two ultrasounds, and so far it looks like they reoccur. Mine have been painful as well.

I've had more than one - I had several, some that were up to 6cm. They all resorbed in a couple of months after forming but they did scare me at the time. Once I had 2 at the same time, one on each ovary. Every cyst I got coincided with a very stressful time in my life so I definitely think there's a connection with anxiety.

Anyways, cysts are very usual with women of reproductive age so they're not a big deal. Ruptured cysts can indeed be painful and cause inflammation so you should re-check with an ultrasound to make sure there's no leftover fluid there that can get infected.

I have had them before.  I was having pain in that area and they were seen on ultrasound.  They can be painful.  After I changed my birthcontrol they went away.

It's the type of progestin in Mirena that causes cysts. It's the same progestin used in the mini-pill. I got a ton of cysts when I was on that after having my kids. They went away went I stopped using the mini-pill.

Oh yes, I've dealt with burst ovarian cysts before. The most recent one was Easter Sunday. When mine burst my stomach will swell up as well. It takes several days for the swelling and pain to go away.

AN ovarian cyst?  No.  About a dozen of them!  :P

I'm sorry you're in so much pain.  Bursting cysts can hurt like crazy.  When mine popped it only hurt briefly, but for some people it can take days to feel right again.
