Muscle atrophy?!
« on: January 04, 2014, 01:31:15 PM »
So my right calve muscle seemed to have decreased over some weeks and I can't seem to get the muscles back. It's on my dominate side (right side since I'm right handed) I can't even keep on muscles on my biceps! I'm 19 and weigh about 113 I've been skinny all my life but losing that weight (about 5 pounds) is super scary.   :dazed:

Could be tons of reasons, man...  Most likely you're not eating as much, not working out as hard, etc. etc.  There are seriously millions of benign reasons for muscular atrophy.  Are you doing more cardio?  Burning more calories somehow?  The list goes on.  Also likely that it's simply perceived and not real.  It's like reverse anorexia - guys who think their muscles are shrinking.  Take measurements.

I agree that taking measurements is the only way you would know if you are really experiencing muscle atrophy or if its perceived.

Another way to get a ballpark on it is to think about how your clothes are fitting. Are they as tight / loose as they've always been?

If your muscles ARE a bit smaller I'm sure it's absolutely nothing to worry about.

Now what are you doing, are you doing free weights or machines, cardio, or is this just happening randomly where you aren't doing any workout? And if you are working out have you just started?

Start eating more calories than you spend, that is the only way you will get weight.

Also, if you want to bulk then go to gym.

Take measurements of your body parts and your body weight now, and in a month. That is the only way you are going to see is it decreasing or not.

My guess is that you are just not eating enough, and/or your metabolism is very fast. Point is, eat more calories. ;)
