Really worried can't stop obssessing
« on: December 27, 2013, 09:50:43 PM »
So I've been going through this bout of fear about a swollen node. Now I have two and a fever of 100. (Just took temp) Thing is I'm not sure if I should be relieved that I have the fever or more worried? My problem is that other than the swollen nodes and the fever I don't have any cold or flu like symptoms, except of course for being tired. My mom thinks I have sinusitis because it runs in our family but I have zero runny nose and zero sore throat! Who gets a fever and some swollen glands without runny nose and sore throat? It sounds unheard of to me! It sounds like something rare :( Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Nodes can swell up for tons of specific reasons ... fighting an infection, allergies, etc. Sometimes they stay a little swollen. I've had nodes I can feel in my neck for years and years. I worried about them when I first noticed but after a doc visit was fine. Then a couple years back I was convinced I had a hard swollen lump in my neck but it ended up being just a bone! Point being, try not to worry too much - you're likely just fighting off an infection of some kind. The swollen nodes is a sign your body is doing what it should - preventing you from getting sick. :)

Thank you so much for the reassurance. I got really nervous because I usually never get swollen glands even if I am indeed sick. I do have a low fever so I guess it is some type of infection. Bless you for the comfort.
