Odd Breathing Issues
« on: December 21, 2013, 03:07:02 PM »
I held off on making a thread because I thought it'd go away a couple days ago. On Wednesday, my breathing started to feel like I couldn't get a good breath and that I'd stop breathing, but it's so hard to describe. I get tired easily after any sort of running, and when walking up hills or anything, my breathing gets slow and I feel like the air is...outside of me and that the air will never draw into my nose, and that something horrible will happen. It causes me to get nervous, and sometimes my muscles get "too" relaxed and it causes panic within me. It feels like I can never get a satisfying breath, and it usually gets worse when I walk and gets better at rest. My lungs have been tested as clear, my EKG was done in summer and it said that I am fine but I'm scared that I have a heart issue anyway. The breathing makes me feel like my heart will stop and almost like I skip breaths, it makes me nervous. I also have heart palps almost everyday, at least once a day. Help? I am 15 btw...

Hi, I noticed I get out of breath easily and sometimes I'll feel shortness of breath as your described. Are you physically active? You said your tests came back normal so I wouldn't worry. It could also be a touch of asthma. You are really young so I highly doubt it would be anything serious. Try exercising and maybe even doing yoga and practicing deep breathing would help. But I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Meditation does help but only for a bit, sometimes walking helps. I'm not too physically active. I also get really fatigued with this as well.

Do you monitor your breathing all the time? Do you notice that you are tired quickly after starting excercise? Adding palpitations and fatigue to the equation and you have a classic anxiety attack! Especially if meditation helps.

Nevertheless, you should talk to your doctor. Perhaps suggest that he/she sends you for a heart ultrasound.

I do want to talk to my doc about it and I do tire quickly after exercise. I don't get repeated palps but I do get at least one palp a day. I do monitor my breathing constantly. The breathing has periods of getting better during the day, too, which is strange.

I will get an hour or two where my breathing is good but then it goes right back to feeling like I can't draw enough air in, ir is slow, and something will happen.

Reviving because it keeps getting worse. I keep feeling tired and I get so scared that my breathing will stop, I get chest squeezing with it and an occasional palp. If I can't 'feel' myself inhale, it freaks me out and gives me a panic attack. Mostly, it's worse when I'm bloated from eating too much. I hate being so aware of my body.

The point of these questions that I have asked is to show you that you are hypervigilant about your symptoms and that's blowing things out of proportion. That is classic anxiety. A little twitch in your thigh and you right away assume it's MS!!! That's being hypervigilant.

It just feels so scary, and I fear something will always happen. Horribly.

I used to get this a lot with anxiety, like I couldn't get a satisfying breath. The more I thought about it the worse it got and this included palpitations too. You'll soon stop thinking about it and then you'll realise it's gone.
