Pain on top of my head when coughing or bending over?
« on: December 15, 2013, 10:12:00 PM »
I began having what I've been told are migraines in the summer, no past history of headaches or migraines. I'm 22. I live in Canada, and with our socialist medicine it will be extremely unlikely that I will ever get any type of test or scan done before I'm dead or on the verge of death.

I got so sick of being fatigued/dizzy and headaches daily that I began taking extra strength advil 3 times a day for 2 months, and my headaches did get a bit better. I had to stop taking the advil because my stomach and bowels were getting upset, and now a week later after stopping advil, my headaches are back in full force. This headache gets worse when coughing, or bending over.

Is it normal to suddenly get these headaches out of the blue at 22 and have them every single day, along with dizziness, fatigue, slurred speech sometimes, a decline in grades at school, and now with them getting worse when I cough or bend over? It feels like theres a golf ball in my skull when I cough. I'm frustrated, because I have no control over my medical care and I know its
extremely unlikely I will get any tests or scans done because doctors assume its impossible to get a brain tumor at 22 (even though there are many cases of it actually happening).

I should also mention that I had neck pain/stiffness this morning.

I always read on this forum about all the tests and scans all you guys get, how do you get them? Do you pay for it on your own?

Another thing I should mention too, but haven't really paid much attention to - I may be having seizures. I'm probably not, but here's my symptoms: I will sometimes just begin staring at something and feel like I can't look away, and my eyes almost start to cross/things start to blend together almost. It's probably because I stare at a screen and am tired a lot.

You need a doctor to organise a scan for you. I am not saying there is anything wrong with you but just to be on the safe side and to stop obsessing over what it could be I'd go to the doctor. It might be useful to write a list of your symptoms so you don't forget any.

I'm in Canada so I get 'free' health care (which I pay through the nose in taxes for in reality) but that means I can't make any decisions regarding my health care. I will not get any type of tests until any type of cancer is at stage 4 or my brain tumour is causing my brain to hemorrhage.

It's similar in Australia but if you go to the GP and they see grounds to further investigate they will organise that for you
