Ever worry your anxiety is a symptom of a disease?
« on: December 12, 2013, 05:53:33 PM »
I find myself googling illnesses and often it will list anxiety as a symptom of the disease. When I see this I start to wonder if my anxiety is a symptom of some neurological disease and not just anxiety. I have suffered from anxiety since I was a young kid, but am starting to wonder if this case of anxiety isn't linked to a neurological condition. Does anyone else every worry about this?

Thanks as always!

Utahguy, I worry about everything to do with neurological diseases.  It totally freaks me out.  If I didn't have symptoms it wouldn't bother me so much..

I've worried about this plenty of times. Just the other day I was looking at something, and it said that sufferers from this rare genetic illness have the tendency to develop mental disorders like OCD... which I have... which totally freaked me out. Vicious cycle.

I think about that too.  I wonder if the progression of my anxiety symptoms is actually the progression of a disease.

Well, I have GAD not health anxiety, but I've been through this previously. I was having morning anxiety which was very physical in nature this summer.....heart pounding, this nervous energy, elevated temp, etc. And during those episodes I often wasn't feeling MENTALLY anxious. I was very surprised that my thyroid level was normal because it felt very much the way hyperthyroidism is described. My doc did a thorough workup which was pretty much normal. However my progesterone was a bit borderline, so I've been doing a very low dose progesterone cream. My GAD is still present, but these morning "adrenaline surge" type episodes are almost completely gone so I do think it was hormone related
