You shouldn't be pressing hard into your neck... there are various things you could be feeling... Nodes maybe, fat deposits, muscles and other soft tissue structures.

The neck has a lot of grooves, structures, and bumpy, lumpy bits (lymph nodes and not) that our untrained hands can't differentiate between. It's best to just try as hard as you can to not poke around, especially because we don't even know what we're poking when we do it! I know it's a lot easier said than done, but poking around and pressing can also cause things to get agitated because you won't leave them alone, and that'll only worry you more. When I go on bouts of pressing and prodding my neck, it makes my lymph nodes swell up, and then I get worried about them being swollen, even though I caused it!

When I was 19 I also was pressing into my neck and I could feel a hard lump.  After a few months it wasn't going away so I went to the doctor and they told me it was normal.  You are fine :)

Thank you I appreciate what you are all saying and I guess I need to accept things.

Since I posted I have been to see an osteopath to try and accept that it's not lymph nodes and it's muscle issues instead. So he examined me and said it definitely is muscle issues and all the stress and tension is being held there and I've strained the right side of my neck. He said what I am feeling is not nodes. I left happy.

But again last night I felt my neck and started to panic that he was wrong so I saw my gp today and she felt around and said she is sure its muscles and not nodes. She also said I am pressing far too deep and she thinks I'm causing soft tissue damage from all the poking.

So in the past 6 months I've been my neck has been examined by:

My gp probably at least 8 times
An emergency room doctor
In August and September I saw a specialist haematologist who specialises in blood cancer (my request) and I was examined and cancer specific bloods taken
A Specialist ENT twice! 3 months apart and last app was last week. He also scoped me!

Never have I been told that there is anything other than normal bring felt ad told NO swollen nodes. So why do I think that what I can feel must be right and all of these specialists and doctors are wrong?!? How can my brain believe this and not them?

Could something be hiding that a scan would show and thy thy can't feel? I just feel it feels fuller on the right?? And these bumpy bits. :(
