Please read I need advice!!! Sooooooo worried
« on: December 08, 2013, 10:07:41 PM »
I have been on here before asking about my sons ankle but I'll do a fast recap... He's 16 plays hockey is very active but has this lump just above his ankle that is 2cm by 2cm. He had blood work, bone scan, MRI and ct scan turns out it is an unheralded injury that has turned to ossification. Now he had a hockey tournament this weekend and the lump looks huge!! Do you think they could have missed a bone cancer on those tests?? I am freaking out!!! Please any advice will help

No I don't think they missed anything. I was a figure skater when I was younger and I had the exact same injury when I was 18. I had mine removed because it was painful, I could barely get my skates on and it hurt to walk. Your son has had quite a few tests done and doctors can tell the difference between a tumor and an injury on those kinds of things. Your son is fine.

The scans would have picked up any abnormality.

I agree with the above peeps regarding the doctors. Whether you know it or not they would have to actively rule out cancer in this situation, hence all the testing. They probably just didn't tell you as much. Regardless, if this were a bone cancer your son would not be able to skate. He would probably be in too much pain to even stand! He is going to be fine. If it keeps bothering him I think the ossification can be surgically removed via a routine procedure.

I don't remember exactly how big mine was, but it was a pretty good size. Almost like having a second ankle bone right next to the first. I have a 4cm scar from the surgery.
