Quick question might be dumb?
« on: December 08, 2013, 09:33:22 PM »
So I was reading on the internet that tobacco may cause psychosis or schizophrenia I was just wondering if this was true or not because that's one of my biggest fears and I like to use snuff sometimes.
So my question is do you know if chewing tobacco can cause psychosis or schizophrenia and what's your guys thoughts on the topic do you think tobacco can do that?

Hi bbwire...  I researched your question on the Internet, and it is my opinion that you have it backwards.  It is not that tobacco or tobacco products make you prone to acquiring conditions such as psychosis or schizophrenia, it's that people that have psychosis or schizophrenia are just more prone to becoming addicted to nicotine, and use it in excess.  There is a definite genetic link with schizophrenia, it runs in families.  Perhaps this will ease your fear...  Chuck

Just to add to Chucko's response, just remember that correlation does not necessarily equal causation.
