Neck pain
« on: December 08, 2013, 08:10:43 AM »
I am in panic mode.

I have had a sore neck on a off for a few months. I saw a gp about 4 weeks ago as by this time I had started pressing into my neck for the first time ever and foud lynph nodes. At this point I had a nasty sort of flu virus. She said they were not even swollen and she would never mention them to someone who came to her. She said it was because I had been looking for them and that they were defo under 1cm. Anyway I left them alone and I think they have gone down a bit but if I dig in I can still feel them.

Anyway the neck ache has persisted and I took to looking about and now I feel near the back of my neck another two tiny bumps. I think they are lymph nodes but again I need to flex my neck so the muscle is sticking out and then I feel them.

So my worry is that these nodes are growing and pressing on tissues and that whys my neck is sore? I'm so worried.

I have also seen an ENT twice (about an ear issue) but he has examined my neck 3 months ago and then again last week and both times he has said he cannot feel anything?!?? He also put a camera into my nose and throat and said all healthy.

I'm terrified to ask for an ultrasound and I know it's going to be bad news as why can I only feel them more on the right side and the on off neck ache??

The ENT's specialty is the head and neck and if they did not find anything to be concerned about, than I would
not worry. My neck is sore quite often, especially if I turn my head from side to side or up and down.  My doctor told me that tension in your back and shoulders can cause neck discomfort and pain. He also said that neck pain can be caused by the way you sit, stand, sleep, etc. If I were a betting man and I used to be many years ago, I would bet you are OK.

I just also feel the muscles on the rift side are more prominent than the left. I'm worried it's something they wouldn't find unless ultrasound? Like maybe nodes are pushing them out?

My gp say no, lymph nodes grow out and I there was anything worrying the nodes would be sticking out.

The ENT specialist spend about 30 minutes with me trying to reassure me that there was nothing wrong bu I'm worried as I can feel these tiny bumps? Maybe 3mm. Need to press right in.

A number of years ago, I was shaving in the morning and I thought I felt a lump in my neck. I called my ENT physician and he felt my neck and said it was part of my neck. I felt like a dope. Anyway, as we are all aware, self diagnosis is very bad.

Yeah the ENT said its all just my neck I'm feeling as muscle.

I know self diagnosis is the worst. I am not overly anxious with my kids. But my 8montj old has been sick for 2 weeks. I have seen the doctor twice when it first began and then Tuesday last week. Both said just virus. Lungs clear etc. he has cough and runny nose and just not himself but otherwise happy playing. Anyway last night I read about a baby dying from pnemonia and bam that was me heart racing and panic taking over. I rushed him at midnight to the emergency room for kids and sat for 4 hours meanwhile my baby by this point is climbing in his pram and smiling to all who was there. The paediatrician examined him and said all his obs were perfect, his breathing perfect and his lungs clear. He explained its an upper respiratory infection ( cold virus) and its the congestion making him cough. I understood all this perfectly and still don't like to take a chance where my kids are concerned but last night I had myself up to high do convinced there was something more going on!!!! As a result we did not get to bed till 6am and the Abby was back up at 7!!!

Anyway I know I'm rubbish at self diagnosis which is something many posters Jo have known n me on this board remind me!! And they are right. Thanks Marc x

I had neck pain a few years ago that put me in panic mode too. It was on one side and I could feel a muscle knot. I went for massages to get the knot out and nothing worked. And then suddenly about 6 months later, the knot decided to release. It was agonizing.

I had a scope done in the last few months by my ENT and it wasn't bad except that my throat felt numb for a
little while and I did not like the feeling.

Hamsters...have you tried a heating pad...or an ice pack on your neck...I've found that can help too...you may even benefit from  a new pillow....hopefully these will help and you'll feel better soon
