I've been diagnosed with IBS - but I don't have any pain - well, I didn't at the time of diagnosis.

In October, for about 4 weeks I was experiencing painless diarrhea. Doc did a number of tests, including colonoscopy, and said it's IBS after putting me on a medication that is supposed to help, and it did.

Now I'm experiencing some painful bowel movements, but never did when I was diagnosed. I've been on an IBS forum and have read a lot of people don't have any pain with their IBS, even though it's supposedly one of the "main criteria" in diagnosis.

And a lot of other people said that when they first had IBS, there was no pain, but as the months/years went on, they began to experience it.

Hope this helps.

But what about just like occasional loose stools? Do these cause pain?

Eh, I'd say they can. I'd say if it's infectious in nature - i.e. stomach bug - it probably would be. If its caused by anxiety - probably not. Oh, and you can be naturally anxious without knowing it.

Where did you get the weird idea that diarrhea always causes pain? That's absolutely not true.

Been there.  Not long ago. Couple of weeks.  Just had a sigmoidoscopy. All clear besides a tiny polyp. I am a 28 year old female.  They will do the full colonoscopy on Jan 22. Terrified. Does ur stomach make horrible noises ??

Please don't try to give him more scares by asking things that have nothing to do with his problems.

What do you mean here:

"Eh, I'd say they can. I'd say if it's infectious in nature - i.e. stomach bug - it probably would be. If its caused by anxiety - probably not. Oh, and you can be naturally anxious without knowing i"

As in stomach bugs cause pain and anxiety doesn't? Im obsessed with my bowels. I go once in the morning same time and its usually loose, and I read online that painless diarrhea is a warning sign of an organic cause. i thought I was turning a corner. Im so freaked out.

Are you treating your anxiety at all? Or open to the idea of treating it at least?

Having one painless, "loose" bowel movement per day is in no way a bad thing. Plus, there's a big difference between diarrhea and loose stool.

Our bowels are one of the first things to go when we have anxiety—just try to keep that in mind.
