Hi All ---
Sorry it's taken me so long to update, it's been a rough week! The surgery was on Monday and the surgeon removed what turned out to be a 5 cm tumor from my underarm. The initial pathology, which was done right after surgery, was that it was benign. It was a rough few days, with a drain coming from my underarm, pain from the incision, and a cut in my throat from the intubation. I had my follow-up with the surgeon today and had the drain removed and learned that the final pathology was that the tumor was a fibroadenoma. Apparently they are very common in women in their teens and 20s, but far less so in women in their 40s. It also very uncommon to have them in the underarm OR to have them grow as large as mine did.
I have lots to say about the experience, but am exhausted! I didn't realize people where waiting for an update, so I wanted to post ASAP and thank you all for your concern. I will give more details tomorrow!
