heart worries never stop!
« on: November 30, 2013, 09:39:47 PM »
Today I have felt strange all day. Then this afternoon I was having a lot of skipped heart beats that have completely freaked me out. Then I got to thinking that my hands have felt swollen since yesterday but don't look swollen. I've had 2 echoes, a stress test, holster monitors, about 90 ekgs, and last month a myocardial perfusion test. Everything has been normal. I just don't understand. I have all the signs of a heart problem with normal tests. Anyone else with cardiac fears?

I know I certainly do. The last three days my heart has been racing, mainly when I'm up on my feet. I've been keeping track of my pulse rate when it seems bothersome and that's hitting around 120/min , chest pain, numbness in extremities.
I fainted, about four hours ago, after constant chest pain. My lady called an ambulance and after running some standard tests they said I looked fine, just anxiety and they see it all the time. They told me I don't seem to breath too fast but that I was holding my breath without noticing, which was making everything go out of wack. That and if you're really anxious for a number of days your system gets kind of adrenalin sick, also that the adrenalin causes a lot of frightening symptoms as well.
I've only been dealing with constant anxiety for about three months now, but being uninsured and unmediated it's been rough. That stated I've been in the er once , ambulance ( called on me not by me ) three times and in the clinic a few times. All the blood work and all the tests came back okay.
I would advise keeping tabs on your heart rate and blood pressure if you can ( don't let focusing on it too much add stress ) and ask to see a heart specialist, with a record of what's going on they might think of something.
I don't say this because I think something's wrong, but it's best to at least get answers for your self.

I right there with you, it's very distressing but I think you're okay.
Tonight I'm just going to try and relax and zone out with movies or video games, distraction is great, and stop worrying.
I wish you the best.

Usually I'm afraid I'm going to have a heart attack or a fatal arrhythmia and drop dead. But with my hands feeling swollen I'm afraid of heart failure or kidney failure. I should add that I'm 33 with no diagnosed health problems other than anxiety.

I have been dealing with HA around my heart for 6 months. It is getting so old! I just have a hard time excepting it is nothing. I wish I had words of encouragement, but seeing as most people do eventually move on to other 'illnesses' this will probably pass in time.

This has been going on for 2 1/2 years now. That was my first appt with the cardiologist. The last time I requested another monitor he said it wouldn't show anything else. I may ask again tomorrow. I don't know what it will take to convince me. There are no more non invasive tests left to do. Its so hard to convince myself that flip flops, skips, and thuds are a normal occurence.

I get heart palpitations all the time. I have had them my whole life, so they don't really bother me.. When I say my whole life I mean as long as I can remember.. My heart is healthy tests show, and I have ran marathons with my heart. A skip beat really means nothing. It all anxiety. A symptom of anxiety is heart palpitations.

How often do you feel them? And how do you ignore them?

A few times a week maybe.. I use to get them more when I was younger.. A few times a day probably back then. My mother and father both have them as well. There is not much you can do about them. Cardiologist told me the majority of people have them, and the majority of them are benign, especially people with healthy hearts. Have you ever talked to your doctor about a beta blockers? I know they can help with them.. Also, the stress hormone cortisol is most likely the culprit.. Anxiety and stress have made me have symptoms such as numbness, buzzing of the feet and hands, visual fog, headaches, muscle twitches, pressure in my head, weakness, off balance feelings, etc.. I have been checked for diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, lyme disease, every autoimmune disease you could think of, I have had MRI's, xrays, blood work, EKG's, physicals, body inflammation checks, etc, etc. And not only do I never have anything wrong with me (knock on wood) it turns out that I am perfectly healthy.. You would be surprised how powerful your mind is.. I have had neurologists, cardiologists, and many more doctors tell me that you can make things happen in your body just by thinking about it if you truly believe it... It takes a long time to retrain your thinking, and for your body to go back to normal.. If your tests and doctors say you're okay, then you have to take the doctors word for it, and trust them. They are the ones who went to medical school. I know its hard, its hard for me too, but you need to try. I am sure you're perfectly healthy. best of luck. But discuss a beta blocker with your doctor and see what they say.

The funny thing about all this is that I'm also a nurse. I always say I should have went to school for something else so I could be oblivious to medical issues. My cardiologist mentioned beta blockers but my bp runs really low so I didn't want to chance it bottoming out. All the beta blockers are old school bp meds. I know palps run in my family as well. My great grandmother had irregular beats all her life and lived to be 86. My aunts and cousins have them also. Not sure about my mom as she doesn't worry like I do. Hope I can eventually come to terms with this. I know its probably been there all my life and I never noticed until the last 3 years.

Today has started bad. I woke in the night with my hands tingling and when that stopped fell back asleep. Then woke and my head felt funny kinda floaty like. I finally get up and kinda feel nauseous for awhile and the light looks bright which makes me anxious that I may pass out. I'm wondering if I should go to the er before work but I don't know how I could explain it to them. Or maybe the doctor or cardiologist? I just don't know what to do. J tried calming down and I think I did for a minute but then I thought I was calming down because I was dying. Sorry for the rambling I tend to do that when I'm freaking out.

I get dizzy and have tingling in my body, especially my feet when my anxiety levels are at a all time high.. At least you work in a hospital or doctors office in case something is really wrong. (which I would bet my right arm that there is not)  lol

I had a fluttery feeling at Walmart and now I'm totally freaked out. I keep feeling funny in my throat and when I check my pulse its fine. Then when I stop checking its back. I keep feeling strange in my head too. Not quite dizzy but odd. I k ow I have pac's but anytime I have a flip flop, flutter or skipped beat I can't handle it.

Have you ever tried taking a beta blocker or talked to your doctor about taking them? They can help with palps, and they keep your heart rate slow, and block most of the physical symptoms associated with anxiety attacks. Apparently they work wonders.
