Anyone else here have IBS?
« on: November 30, 2013, 08:05:44 PM »
Do your IBS symptoms worry you? Are you worried that it could be something else?

I haven't been diagnosed with IBS yet because the doctors want to see if my symptoms are going to last the "clinical 3 months" before giving me an actual diagnosis - even though I've had multiple tests run, including a colonoscopy - all of which were normal.

I think I've been experiencing another bout here on vacation at my in-laws. I don't normally drink coffee, and for the past few mornings i've been drinking coffee and experiencing altered bowel habits, consistent with what I experienced in October that started the miryad of tests (blood work, stool cultures, abdominal xray, colonoscopy) - all normal.

How long do your symptoms last? My symptoms continued for 4 weeks - until I was put on amitriptyline. Things got better a week after being on the meds (physical, not mental).

Anyway - since experiencing these altered bowel habits, I can't help but think I might have an intestinal tumor or lymphoma. My HA is really acting up. Have you noticed your IBS symptoms get worse when your HA begins to act up?

Haven't been diagnosed with IBS, but pretty sure I have it. My stomach and intestines go CRAZY when my anxiety is bad. I get nauseous, diarrhea, or frequent BMs. My stomach and intestines gurgle and make horrible noises too. I also have an extreme fear of lymphoma, and I'm also terrified when I get diarrhea because then I convince myself I have some kind of cancer and it's a vicious cycle which causes MORE stomach problems and diarrhea. I HATE it. What has helped me is to take one or two immodiums (loperamide) when it;s at it's worst. It makes it so I can at least leave the house and not have to worry about being around a bathroom. The digestive symptoms are the WORST part of my anxiety. The more I worry about it the worse it always gets too.

Probably, in a mild form at least. It has never been sufficiently bad for me to seek medical treatment about it. When I first started having issues I got a little bit scared about it but after a while I realised it is pretty benign as far as illnesses go and stopped worrying. It is better now but still not quite right.

ive been diagnosed with it.. probably for the last 5-7 years.  I went to a specialist, got tests done - including the not fun ones after we'd tried everything else. So it persists to this day, but I know its not from anything else. Which sucks, but it means i dont worry so much about it.

At the moment I feel like I have a ball in my intestines. It's on the right side, just below the ribs. My blood works last month and the x-ray of my abdomen were perfect, but showed obstipation. Maybe it's back, I don't know, but I feel myself starting to worry again. So I know what it is. Since I was little stress always had a big influence on my intestines. Most of the time it was just anoying pain. But this pressure thing is new to me and I don't know how to deal with it.

I had "IBS" two years ago with my first major HA scare. It came with my freaking out about colon cancer. I became so obssessed with examining my stool amount, shape and size that I started getting IBS symptoms. I flet as though my anal opening was loose and leaking. I was going to the bathroom 6 times a day. I was analyzing what I ate and my tunny had sharp pains and made horrible noises. when I would go out in public I would constantly worry i was gonna crap my pants.

It was brutal but my GI and GP both said it was stress induced IBS. I had a colonoscopy and after that I started to settle down. I began working out and changed my diet and more important at the time I was getting back to a normal sleep pattern. Once my stress was gone everything wnet back to normal 100%.

I have had no issues since. Right now with my MS scare I can;t say I have the full blown IBS back again but I have noticed my patterns are way off. When I wake in the middle of the night I have to go to the bathroom which I never do. So you can see stress can mimic IBS. My GI said that most of his IBS patients are anxious to some degree.

My doctor told me he really thought my symptoms are a 100% stress related, but he ordered blood works and a x-ray anyway because he wanted to give me some peace of mind (gotta love my doctor). I know this pressure feeling is stress, because I have a lot of pain in my hips right now (bad knees, lots of mud here and an amazing young colt that got scared by a white piece of plastic and bodychecked me prooved to be no good for my hips) and I know that I can't take the rest I need to feel better.

I have had IBS for about 15 years! Had all kinds of tests done and they all have been normal (sigmoid, colonoscopy, CT scan. blood work, stool tests, breath test, etc). Mine gets worse with stress and what i eat.
I recommend the book eating for IBS. You need to eat soluble fiber. Also a probiotic helps I use Align Digestive Care Probiotic Supplement. it's the only one that gave me great results.

Good luck, the mind does a number of things to our bodies, and specially our guts.
