Brain Cancer and Wireless Headsets!
« on: June 28, 2013, 08:56:11 AM »
Like my statement above points out, do wireless headsets cancer or tumors? For example this is the exact same one I use at my work below.

http://vencosolutions.com/products/drive-thru-systems/

Are these safe to use, or unsafe?  I have been told they are both unsafe and okay to use...what's the real answer?  Am I in any danger by using these.  I have been working for this company for almost 5 years...but we didn't get these headsets until probably 1 or 1 1/2 years ago.  And I don't use them every single day I work, although a few times I'll have them on constantly taking orders because it's busy.

Do they cause brain cancer?

While I can't say definitively they're safe or unsafe, there has been no research to conclude a positive relationship between wireless frequencies and cancer or other maladies. Most of the "news" on that front has been alarmist stuff filtered through the media.

I'm just scared because I never thought about the risks involved when we first got the headsets.  Will my chances of having a brain tumor increase because I have used these headsets?
I know it's a difficult question ton answer but I guess I would kind of like an idea of how safe or unsafe these really are.

I would say no, they're not unsafe based on everything I've seen. http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/ntp/roc/twelfth/ListedSubstancesKnown.pdf Here's a list of the currently known carcinogens circa 2011. Wireless headsets are not on the list.

Thank you...I have a great worry about these.

People say they're safe because they give off a small amount of radiation, while others say it's completely unsafe.  I have been having facial pressure, and pain on the side I usually have the headset on lately though.  With my luck, it's a tumor growing...no sarcasm intended.

First of all, even if they gave off radiation it would take years and years before it would cause serious damage. I think your anxiety is tricking you here into thinking you already developed a tumour. The amount and kind of radiation in a headset are much safer then most of the other appliances we use in our own households.

That is a good question. I would assume they are safe unless studies prove otherwise.

I read studies that say there is a correlation between them and cancer, but other studies say that there is not link between them.

I've asked a lot of people at my work about them and they say they're fine.  I was going to ask my GP about them, but I always seem to forget to ask her.  And when I try and find something about them (in terms of radio frequency and health) the only thing I can find is related to cell phones...and I don't know how much they radiation they give off.

But, I do recall seeing an interview with some doctor on *****, and they said that they believe there is a link between cell phones and brain tumors, but they just haven't found it yet.   :fragend005:

Like they really thought microwaves would give us leukemia twenty years ago. Not true!

But, one thing I want to say that the microwave is closed and not up against our heads.  I just see almost every single drive thru workers wearing headsets.  I can't imagine that these would be sold if they increased someone's risk for a brain tumor.  A lot of people say that the radiation they give off is so small that it doesn't increase your risk of a brain tumor.  Should I quit my job to save my health?

I just worry that the damage has already been done to my brain.

I don't want to scare you even more, but at any time of the day you have radiation rushing through your body. TV and signals, cell phone signals, even your alarm clock. There are complete phone conversations flashing right through you as we speak.

Oh I knew that radiation was all around me.  I just get very concerned about the headsets since I'm holding it directly against my head...sometimes for extended periods of time - maximum of 45 minutes of continuous use...generally no longer than that.

But, even my mom said she refused to stand next to a microwave when she was pregnant because she was worried about the health effects during the pregnancy (for the baby).
