I'm really, really, really sure it isn't cancer! Distraction is key with anxiety, try to find things to keep your mind off it (as impossible as it may seem) and you'll start to feel better. I know it's hard getting things out of your head though when you've really convinced yourself but everyone has odd marks on their skin at one time or another. Breathe. Relax. You'll be fine! :)

I think the reason I got worried about it was because I read a reddit post wherein a woman had a dry, red spot on her face that ended up being melanoma in situ. Granted, it was only there for a couple weeks before it started changing and itching a ton, but still...I'm afraid that somehow this is some rare, undiagnosed melanoma that isn't "textbook" form or something. Man, I was doing great with my HA until a couple weeks ago. Then it all crashed.

Anyway, thanks for replying. I appreciate it. I suppose I'll go to the doctor when I can.

I don't mean to disrespect you in any way, I am in the same HA boat as you, so try to take this the right way. What you wrote here would sounds to me as true as if you had wrote that you were abducted by aliens today. Trust me when I say, one day you will look at this and laugh how irrational it was.

But since you have fears right now, and they are real, go to the doctor as soon as you can to ease your mind, and until then, just try to believe what others are saying, that it's probably nothing serious.

Take care

I don't know. There's a red "mole" -like spot in the shadowy area. It wasn't there last April. I do know one thing: evolution isn't good. Here's a picture of it: http://imgur.com/KuaP1Bk

It still seems pretty small but...I don't know guys. I am seriously concerned. I would make a dern appointment, but my new insurance won't kick in until next month.

Have you been rubbing it at all or touching it a lot? That might have caused the spot. I know it's hard to believe what people are telling you when you're really convinced it's something terrible but really it is just irrational thoughts that we all have with HA. I've been getting them recently about a weird bump in my mouth and I convinced myself it was a tumor and basically every doctor & dentist I've seen just aren't recognizing the signs and I'm definitely going to die from it. Where did it all come from? Reading stuff online! Do not google or read anything else about it okay? It won't reassure you as much as you might hope it will. You're going to be okay :)

I've tried really hard not to itch or rub it in the off chance that it heals...but I'm still freaked out by it. I seem to remember a time where I just assumed the red spot was a cherry angioma, but now I'm not so sure.

I am immensely sorry for bumping this thread, but I have another concern: I scratched (I know I shouldn't have) the area and messed around with it a lot. It made it kind of red and angry, but I noticed something: several of those small circles/bump-like things (you can see them in the previous photos) got angry, red, and started shedding a little dry skin. Huh? I applied some lotion, but now the area looks more red and inflamed than usual.

I'm wondering: could this be evidence AGAINST melanoma and for something else like keratosis pilaris? I've googled a million times and nothing really looks like I have. Last night, I almost cried at the thought of having melanoma. I REALLY don't want to have cancer. Like I said before, I'm going to a doctor when I can (some time this month), but until then, I'm full of worry, dread, and doubt.

You've said it yourself in your own post, you've created it to be red & sore etc by itching it! I'm absolutely sure it isn't cancer, it's all your HA making you believe these things. I've also had myself in tears many times from believing I had a terrible illness, again it's all HA. What you don't want to do is get yourself so worked up that you don't believe the doctor when you see him/her as that happens to me and it makes you feel even worse. Please do not Google, it will not reassure you!

Are you on any medication for your anxiety? If you are you may want to discuss perhaps a higher dosage or if you aren't it's definitely something you should discuss with your doctor. I was in a really bad state like you before I started taking my daily medication and it does help. You'll be fine :) Try find something to distract yourself.

I'm not actually on any medication...without insurance, my options have been a little limited. I got a lot better for a while, then got worse again recently. I guess my next step is to see a dermatologist, and then after that...no idea. I've always wanted to treat my anxiety without the use of mood-altering drugs.
