Obsessing over not having kids.
« on: January 26, 2013, 02:09:49 AM »
I always been indifferent towards marriage and I don't want having kids, but lately I've been feeling guilty for not planning to have kids. I feel like I would be betraying nature or something for not continuing my generic line. I keep thinking in my head over, and over -- I'm a biological failure.  It's so weird, but I'm starting to really obsessive over it.  Any advice?

You are only 22 years old (the same age as my daughter) and have your whole life ahead of you.
Just because you don't want kids now, does not mean you may not change your mind in the future
and that also includes getting married. You are not a biological failure, by the way.

I am younger than you, and I have these thoughts a lot. That, or I worry that I will be physically unable to have kids when I'm ready.

It helps to remember that having a biological family, or really any sort of family, is not necessary for you to have a successful life. Many people are happy without children. Many people also do not need a spouse to complete them. You have to follow your heart, what you want, rather than stressing yourself about being perhaps a little different than others.
