Hey guys, I've decided that this is the most warm looking HA support forum on the internet! So I come with a question...

I did a CBC in April, and everything was within normal range. My White Blood Cell Count was 8, Neutropils 55% and 4.4 (normal range of the latter being 3.0-5.8). I did not do the test in the UK.

I recently did another CBC in October, in the UK, and have noticed a considerable fluctuation in my WBC count. My WBC is now 4, while my Neutrophils are just out of normal range, 1.9, normal being 2.0-8.0.

The doctor said it was normal as it was only slightly off, but she did not know that my previous test had a considerably higher WBC count. To the best of my knowledge, I was not sick when I took both tests, nor was I sick recently before the tests. I am not any medication either. Not a smoker, I'm in my early 20s, not pregnant... no these 'extra' factors, if you get my gist. Everything else on my blood test was fine. I'm not anaemic, and all other results only fluctuated slightly, not a lot.

I'm essentially asking has anyone else experienced this? I know being hypos we probably do a lot of blood tests... :P If anyone can give me any reassurance on whether it's normal to have WBC fluctuate over time, as much as from 8 to 4, and whether a slightly low neutrophil count put me in the risk of infection. Scared... but aren't we all from time to time :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Though no one replied, just want to give an update:

I've gone to another doctor who told me that it was likely that when my WBC was 8000 I had an unseen infection, so that I should consider 4000 as my WBC normal, provided that I am an Asian girl and slightly underweight in BMI. So, fear not. In any case it is normal to have your blood results fluctuate, as it depends on everything you do - mood, food, exercise, etc.

Hope it helps people in any case. :)

A couple years ago I had to get mine checked out every three months. It fluctuated all the time and was told that is normal.

Mine:

Component                Standard Range 9/15/2011 7/23/2012 12/28/2012 1/17/2013 1/24/2013 1/31/2013
Neutrophils,Absolute    2.00-7.30 K/uL    2.21    5.16    2.15    1.87    2.72    1.92
White Blood Cells    4.0-11.0 K/uL    3.7    6.8    3.9    3.9    4.3    4.4

The second one was due to what they thought was reactive lymphoid hyperplasia.  Not sure whether this helps any though, I apparently have consistent enough neutropenia that I am due to see the hematologist.

My doctor also told me that it is normal for results to fluctuate somewhat over time.
