Purple/Red Spots on Leg?
« on: May 17, 2012, 11:35:22 PM »
This morning, I noticed several reddish-purple spots on my upper left leg. Of course, I let Googling get the best of me, and I've seen oodles o'fun stuff saying how red spots can be indicative of things like Leukemia.

I have attached a pic. Any idea what these could be?

As a follow-up question, I had a CBC in February that was completely normal (not a single thing out of range). Would a CBC still be good for three months in terms of it disqualifying anything sinister like Leukemia?

Your photo hasnt been approved yet, but it sounds like panache. I get it. I always think it points to liver disease when I get it, lol. I think as long as the CBC is normal your fine

Do you mean petechiae? And is three months still a "safe bet" that things could not have suddenly morphed into some form of leukemia?

My dad had those.  They never turned out to be anything bad.  No idea what they were, since he wasn't one of us and never bothered to find out, but they never hurt him.

Hi....I have the same except mine are a more red than purpley color. I have tons of them. And I do have clusters of them on my inner thigh just like yours on both legs. Are u fair by any chance?  I'm a blued eyed blonde and I think being fair makes u more susceptible to getting these little broken capillaries. I also have a familial predisposition to them. Both parents have them especially my mom. I first really noticed them when I was in my mid thirties. As the years have passed I'm getting tons more like my mom. My 16 yr old son has 4 already on his body and he's really fair. What I try to do is take green veggies especially kale, spinach and asparagus which contain vitamin k which strengthens capillaries and clots the blood so the capillaries don't break. Highly doubt u have leukemia.  U would have other bad symptoms.

I'm definitely fair-skinned (also blue-eyed). My mom said she does have them too, so that calmed me a little bit.

It might be hemangioma too, which are harmless and don't indicate a more serious health probelm. I have a ton of little red marks (burst capillaries, hemangiomas). They started happening when I was a teen/pre-teen, and I've really started noticing them cropping up a lot more now (I'm 25). Both sides of the family have a predisoposition to them. I'm really fair with blue eyes, but dark hair (always dye it lighter). My doctor told me that as I get older, I'll notice them more and more. A couple of my cousins also suffer with this. They're nothing to worry about but I freak out about them anyway. Do you get lots of blue spider veins, by chance?

Unfortunately, if you're genetically predisposed to develop spider veins you're going to notice more and more as time goes by! The good news is they're just a cosmetic issue. The bad news is short of scleropathy and laser treatment there is nothing that can be done to minimize their apperance! I have those damn veins everywhere - I have since I hit puberty and I'm still here!  :winking0008:
