Pain under right ear and into neck ... Scared. Please help!
« on: January 16, 2012, 01:59:10 AM »
So, today I haven't been feeling well as I've have a headache on the right sight of my head all day. It's on the right side, goes into my ear and down my neck into my shoulders. I've never had one like this. It's not a sharp pain to think brain aneurysm, but the fact that I've taken tylenol and it hasn't helped is worrying me. Also, now I still have the headache, but the pain is mostly in my right ear and down my neck and under the jaw. I felt where the area near my neck meets under the ear and it hurts to put pressure on it and it feels swollen. It's really scaring me and I don't know what to do.
Please help!

Could be an ear infection, sinus problem or strained neck or jaw muscle.  Try an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen; sometimes those are more effective.

This could be TMJ. I know someone who has had those exact same symptoms and his doctor told him that's what it was and not to worry. Pain killers didn't help him either, he just had to wait it out. Sorry, i know it sucks but i doubt it is anything serious!

Or ..... could be a migraine. Classic migraine headache.  Been there, done that.  Ibuprophen, Tylenol, migraine medication did nothing for me.  I just had to ride it out.  For me, it would usually last 3-4 days.

I have had this exact problem for a year now. Everything you say, I have the exact symptoms. It was my Tam joint. I saw an oral surgeon who put me on Flexeril and sent sent me to physical therapy to relax those muscles. Stress will only make this worse. I was convinced I had a brain tumor... do not do this to yourself. It is a very painful yet very treatable condition. Good luck :)

Thanks everyone! I know it's not a migraine because the pain would've been worse. I think it's TMJ. I have gone to the dentist back in the summer (because apparently he needs to refer you to an oral surgeon) and he said it was just me chewing too much gum as the reason why my jaw hurt. But now that I remember, I had the exact same pain and it happened when I was most stressed out. It also felt better if I kept my mouth slightly open.
Thanks again all!
