coughing up blood in phlegm this morning
« on: October 22, 2010, 08:44:11 PM »
Yesterday I noticed that I was getting a sore throat and everytime I swallowed it was sore. This morning I had some phlegm stuck in my throat so I coughed it up and it had blood all through the phlegm. It has been a few hours and I haven't coughed anymore up and I don't have a cough/cold at all. I am freaking out! Of course I think I have lung cancer even though I had a chest xray about 5 months ago.

I would call the doctor in case you have an infection. The blood may be coming
from your nose and sinus area from the irritation from your cold. Odds are
it is not lung cancer as you just had a chest x-ray recently.

more than likely sinus/throat issues or bronchitis.  it is unlikely lung cancer.  I'd call the doc as you may need anti-b's

MOST anxiety occurs on a subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state

Hey! It is soooo weird that I just found this on here because the same thing just happened to me. I was diagnosed with a really bad sinus infection like 2-3 weeks ago and got off my antibiotics about a week ago. Accompanied with my infection, I had a horrible cough that was very mucus-filled. The cough finally kind of subsided, but every once in a while, I would get a coughing bout, and dry heave, and then would be fine. Well, that just happened, but instead of being fine, I threw up all this mucus. And the last little bits of it had a wee little bit of blood in it. I immediately called my mom who said it was normal and either happened because I irritated my throat from coughing so much, or the mucus that was bloody from my nose had dripped into my throat. I'm hoping this will help :)
