Hey all, I've been basically just searching for things on this site to see if I could find anyone that has the same symptoms, but I haven't really found anyone that's described exactly what I'm feeling.

Let me start off by saying that I have a seriously BAD neck cracking problem. I try to crack it at least 100 times a day. I read online (stupid) that you can give yourself a stroke eventually, if you crack your neck because of that big artery that's in your neck. One day recently, I was struggling to crack my neck and couldn't really find the right place to jerk my neck (horrible I know), and I kept twisting my head in my hand, and then it felt sharp and sore on one side all of a sudden. Ever since then when I turn my head to the side, it feels like a choking sensation. One side of my neck feels a tad bigger and I'm wondering if I pulled a neck muscle, which would lead to my choking sensation. I really hope I simply messed with the neck muscle, and it's not something else.

My ears constantly feel full, and my jaw feels out of whack and sometimes throbs at the bottom. I feel like I have a lump in my throat. It appears as though my uvula (dangly thing in back of throat) is bigger than usual and I'm hoping that's due to allergies to something in the air or dryness, but I'm not totally sure and it's felt this way for a while now. I don't think I have an infection because I don't really feel sick, but I do think I'm developing allergy/sinus problems because I constantly have stuff dripping down my throat. My throat itself isn't scratchy, just itchy sometimes and that lump sensation and odd feeling when I swallow big pieces of food. My eyes are always itchy and red a lot of times, with mucous is in the corners. People keep telling me that it's allergies, but if I had allergies, wouldn't my nose be stuffy and draining, too? I mainly just have ear, throat, and eye issues. I've been taking benadryl for weeks but I'm not sure if it's doing anything for the fluid in my ears or my throat. The last time I went to the doctor (a month ago) he said there was fluid in my ears but nothing looked inflamed. At the time he also said my throat didn't look inflamed. I had blood work a month and a half ago, and it came back fine.

Has anyone else had similar things happen to them, or does anyone crack their neck and have messed up their throat/neck because of it? I just want to know that it's not just me :-(

Oh and sorry to keep prattling on, but I wanted to ask about this too: is it normal to feel like you have to force yourself to take deep breaths? I'm wondering if it's due to my medication or if I'm having onset asthma, but it seems like for the past couple weeks my chest has felt tight and I feel like I'm not getting enough air. My friend that also suffers from anxiety and panic told me that he feels this way, and not necessarily when he's feeling anxious, either. He said you can just feel like you can't breathe for periods of time due to the anxiety and stress you put on yourself in your mind. I just find that odd because I would think only an anxiety attack would cause me to feel short of breath.

Well your description is the reason I joined this site....for months I have been worried that my uvula is swollen and it feels like it's big.  Sometimes it feels like it's hard to swallow, like I have to force food past it.  I'll go a couple days and feel fine, then a couple where it constantly feels like somebody is touching it or gagging me.  I also feel like there is a lot of post-nasal drip or something in that uvula area, and always feels like I'm starting to get a cold.  The last thing that's bothersome is sometimes it feels like somebody has their hands around my neck, just above the adam's apple.  I went to the doctor, who said I had uvulitis, an inflammation of the uvula.  He prescribed a steroid pill which didn't help.  That was about 8 months ago.  Then two months ago I went to an ear, nose and throat specialist.  He looked in my mouth, felt around my neck, then put a scope up through my nose and into my neck.  He said everything looked fine and ordered a barium swallow to check my swallowing, but it came back normal.  Went back to him for a follow up.  Again he looked in my mouth, then with the scope into the throat, and said it all looks fine.  After all that, any normal person would say whew, I'm good - not me.  Tonight I was a mess, fearing my uvula would swell up and choke me; but I've been looking at it almost daily for months and it never looks any different.  Well hope it helps knowing other people feel the same way!  Good luck.

:action-smiley-065: Hello!  I also have sinus issues and I get the fluid behind my ear drums...I feel like there is something in my throat and find it hard to swallow at times..I have even been having issues with my tongue now...went to ER and they done xrays on my throat.  Everything came back normal...saw my family doctor all he found was the fluid behind my ear drums and prescribed Nasonex to help dry it up.  Don't know what is up with my tongue now...just doesn't feel right on the left side almost like it is numb but my speech and everything is fine....I do believe all this is anxiety related.  My family doctor said my tongue was dry...common condition dry mouth to suck on candy or chew gum.  I am hopeing a lot of this is relived when I start my meds again...I obsess about it so much it drives me crazy.  I am always looking in the mirror at my throat and tongue and even got to the point of sticking my finger in there to see if I feel something which isn't good.  I hope this is a little helpful to you, that there is other people out there going through similiar things that you are.  Best wishes and hope that you feel better soon.  Also, I have also got the shortness of breath and even felt like my throat and nose was closeing up and I couldn't breath...try to swallow and can't and then have a severe panic attack.

Hey there-
I was dx'd with a left vertebral artery dissection in April from having my neck adjusted at the chiropractors. I was very fortunate not to suffer a stroke I was seeing stars and feeling very dizzy and had pain in my neck(not what you describe) but like a migraine in the back of my head. It really doesn't sound like you have any of these symptoms but I would most definitely urge you to stop cracking your neck maybe just doing some stretches Would help. Take care

Hey Aquascorp,

I'm currently on this board from my second major bout of anxiety... this time, I'm fixated on heart related concerns.  Having said that, during my first major bout of anxiety - about 12 years ago now - I had MANY of the symptoms you are describing.  I essentially walked around for about 4 months feeling like my throat was on the verge of closing up - it honestly felt like someone was strangling me constantly. And accompanying that, I also felt like I constantly had a cold/sinus issue/allergy coming on - swollen glands, scratchy throat, headaches etc.  I was obsessive about looking down my throat to see if it was swollen or not.

Oh... and anxiety makes me feel short of breathe quite frequently :).  And no, I don't need to be having an actual panic attack to experience all those sensations!

Hi Crazy- (btw I don't believe that)-
Wow your throat issues sound exactly like me now.  Same thing, I get a flashlight about 5 times a day and see if my uvula is any bigger; and always feel like a cold is coming on or somebody is choking me.  Glad to hear you were able to beat it, it gives some hope to the rest of us.  And coincidentally, my issue before this throat thing was heart problems - for YEARS.  In my teens and 20's I was very athletic; but around 30 I started to get a little out of shape but didn't realize it.  Still kept playing sports but could never understand why I got short of breath and could not keep up any more.  I tried treadmills, Bowflex, jogging, but the terror of having a heart attack exercising never went away.  Then this year I tried a new workout routine that my wife bought, P90X, www.beachbody.com - don't mean to sound like a promotion but I thought I was in shape before, but didn't realize that I wasn't.  After a month of P90X I can play basketball again and keep up with the high school kids, it's unbelievable, so I don't worry any more about heart problems.  Hope this helps!
