well I had mri with contrast of my thoracic spine and that takes longer than a brain or full head mri. They do the normal scan which when I have had brain or full head has been between 15-20 mins then they bring you out and give you the contrast injection and then you go back in and they scan for about half the time again so I would guess you would be in in total about 30-35 mins. At least this is in UK the usa scanners may be quicker.

I had a brain and neck MRI done with and without contrast in Feb this year.

like countrygirl said--you go in for 1/2 of the pictures then you are rolled out and given the injection (takes just a moment or two), then you are rolled back into your cave for the remainder of the pictures.  Since I was having two MRIs at once I was rolled in and out to change certain parts of the machine--neck needs some such thing and head needs a different thing.  So mine took about 1 hr and about 20minutes.

If you are having just the brain MRI, then I'd bank on 1/2hr to 40 minutes.  My daughter had an MRI without contrast recently.  It was 25 minutes.

MOST anxiety occurs on a subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state

I had an MRI of the brain on Halloween 2007, with Gadolinium contrast.
If you count the time I was called back to when I actually left,
it was about an hour.
