People have died from a UTI, just like people have died after a minor cut during a pedicure or a small bump to their head.  UTIs are extremely common - millions and millions of cases a year.  I have had probably about 10 myself.  You take the antibiotics, drink lots, and it goes away.  Only in extremely extremely rare cases does a UTI turn into a larger, more deadly infection.  I really would not go there in your mind, something so unlikely is not worth the agony and panic.

I've had 2 UTI's.  They are uncomfortable, yes.  They cured with a round of antibiotics.  Cranberry juice is good at warding off UTI and help getting over one.

Honestly,  MJF is absolutely correct.  Don't worry yourself about this.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

While I'm sure most, if not all, antibiotics come with their own set of unpleasant side effects, these side effects are usually temporary in duration and also become less bothersome throughout the course of treatment. The flip side to this would be that if her mom decided to not take the antibiotic, she would have to suffer the uncomfortable symptoms of an UTI, which would be quite unpleasant and unnecessary. Since many people have had UTI and taken antibiotics with no ill effect, and the doctor prescribed the med knowing his patient's background, it can be assumed she should be able to take the antibiotic.

I have had several UTI's and I am just fine.  They are indeed very common.  And, Cipro is the only thing that really works for me.  The main issue with a UTI is having it go to the kidneys and even then it is treatable.  Your mom is on an antibiotic and this should clear up very quickly.  Make sure she finishes all the medication even if she feels better.

Be careful of cranberry juice or supplements.  Sometimes they can cause the bladder to spasm worse resulting in more uncomfortableness.  Some kidney specialists do not recommend it.  Also plain cranberry juice found in most food stores has a high concentration of sugar and that is not good for the infection or overall health.  These juices actually contain very little cranberry.

Not to worry.  She will be just fine.

I've never heard that.  When I've had UTI's in the past, I drank it.  But really if it causes more discomfort, don't drink it.  UTI's are bad enough :sick0002:

--(^._.)  DON'T WORRY! My aunt has had like 15 throughout her life. its just like everyone else said, they are EXTREMELY rare that they will become so severe. The person usually takes antibiotics and drinks alot of fluids. my aunt finds it extremely helpful to drink cranberry juice! hope she gets better soon!
