xanax
« on: July 29, 2006, 06:07:51 PM »
Hello, Just wondering how much and for how long some people have been on xanax. I have found that it is the only med that has worked for me. I take .50 mg. sometimes.75 a day for about four months. I was at 1 mg. a day. I am trying to wean myself off. When i go down to 1 and a half i start having really bad anxiety again. Does anybody have any tips on withdrawl ?
thank you, cjp

Hi mbabynz, I am on the exact same dose as you. I only feel calm for about 3 or 4 hours as well. Have you tried any SSRI's ?
I couldn't handle any of the side effects. I wish i could , it would be a more permanent solution.I am trying to wean off the xanax because i have read so many bad things about it. Like it can cause memory loss, be very addictive, and should only be used for a short time. It is the only thing that has worked for me . I heard there is a xanax with extended relief. I will ask my doc about that one. Good luck. cjp

Hi there.  My therapist has told me that xanax doesn't help to prevent attacks, only helps curb them.  I am on zoloft and only needed xanax for the 3 weeks it took the zoloft to kick in and then few and far between.  Zoloft helps to prevent the attacks.

Hey,

My doctor just put me on Xanax XR 2 weeks ago.  It's the extended kind,...supposed to last for 12 hours.  My doc is also weaning me off Wellbutrin, and slowly increasing my Zoloft...I'm on 50 mg's right now.  Does anyone know what the average amount of Zoloft is recommended without being too high?  And does anyone have any ideas about this Xanax?....I have never been on it before, and I don't know if it's because it's an extended release, but I get tired/sleepy for a bit, but I'm not really noticing it helping with panic.  I can take it, go somewhere, and I'll still get panicky.  My doctor is also letting me take my Klonopin, only when I need to.  I have been on Klonopin for a while, and it was working, ...just recently my anxiety has gotten out of control.  I'm just kinda worried about weaning off Wellbutrin, increasing Zoloft, taking 2 mgs of Xanax, and taking Klonopin, usually at night so I don't wake up anxious.  Anyone have any advice or suggestions?  Words of wisdom, or some words of hope.  I'm getting tired of switching doses and meds all the time....I have classes starting up again, and I want/need to feel okay.  I was fine on my meds for the past couple years, and *smack, I was hit was this all over again, and nothing seems to be helping.  Anything advice would really help.  Thanks so much :) Megan
