anyone find success or help with natural therapies??
« on: August 01, 2008, 11:10:40 PM »
I was wondering if anyone found any help for the panic attacks through natural therapies like homeopathy or herbs, amino aciids, supplements etc.  I am hoping that homeopathy could help if i find the right remedy.   :winking0008:

My natropath gave me "Bach Flower Calming Essence".  Seems to do okay, makes me feel happy... not drugged, just like I have a giggle in my heart.

I haven't felt happiness in a very long time until that........  Man, I miss it!!

I didn't think it would work, but glad it did.  Some people don't notice anything... I think it's because they're looking for it.

I have tried bach flower remdies (made my own) and tried the "rescue remedy" by bach flower (haven't heard of calming essence one).  Bach flowers for me had a very mild affect, and absolutely no affect for the "attacks."  Nothing seems to stop them.. :sad0144:

For me, it was some what preventative.  When I started having intrusive thoughts, or when I thought a panic attack was going to start, I immediately thought "It's okay.. It's still a pretty good day!"  Kinda took the edge off the fear a bit.  I haven't tried any of the other Bach products...  I'm sure if I took it in a BIG panic attack, it probably wouldn't do much for me, either.

I have done acupuncture, massage, and exercise for my panic disorder. In my opinion, I think it can help some but they aren't the panacea.  Cognitive Behavioral therapy was of most benefit to me.

What exactly do you do in cognitive behaviour therapy?

The therapist teaches you methods of coping with and interpreting your anxiety and panic episodes with the ultimate goal of desensitizing you from the physical symptoms that usually accompany and trigger panic.  It takes time, but for me it has been well worth it.

If, in the opinion of any veterans of this website, my succint explanation isn't enough, please feel free to chime in and give me some help with this one.  I know that catsmeow will appreciate it.

Best of luck catsmeow, I am keeping you in my thoughts.

Kava helped a bit.  I took that for a year or so and it took care of mild anxiety.  Exercise and healthy eating are important as well as just a basic multivitamin with B-complex vitamins.  Meditation was also very helpful for relaxation, breathing, and focusing my thoughts.  Those are my heavy hitters.

Take care,
OE
