Quick Question,
« on: July 25, 2008, 08:49:36 AM »
I have had a bad cold for a couple of days. Like always it starts with a sore throat then moves it way to my nose and now I am coughing up mucous.  This morning I coughed up a large amount and I noticed that there were tiny, tiny red dots on the outer rim.  Could this be blood? Is this something I need to be concerned about?  Should I go to the doctor for cold?  I am feeling somewhat better. I am not a smoker and I have had a chest xray within the past year which was fine.

I do not want to freak about this, nor do I want to inspect everything coming out of me.  I have been on clynomyacin for a tooth ache for the past few days as well.

Just want some reassurance, I've never seen bloody phlegm before.

Eva

PS: I know this is way over the top, but it's been a stressful weekend.

What did you have to eat in the last 24 hours?  Anything red?  Tomato-y?
If it is a tiny bit of blood, it's probably from irritation.
I love the Neti Pot for sinus issues!

I could be just from a tiny burst blood vessel from coughing.  Unless you see a lot of blood, it is nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the replies.  Friday night I couldn't breathe and went to an emergency clinic.  Turns out I have pneumonia.  Today I finally was able to leave my bed and come downstairs for a little while. I don't want to scare anyone, but I wanted you to know that I totally knew the difference between the anxiety symptoms and the real symptoms and got help when I needed it.  Rest assured you guys will know the difference too.

Well my husband is making me go lay down, so I'll post again in a few days.

I would not contact your physician unless it persisted or got worse.

Doesn't sound too serious at this point.

I know what you mean--you totally know when you're really sick.  The blood was probably irritation from coughing sooo much!  I hop you feel better soon!
