rabies from a cat anxiety; need to resisr googling
« on: September 04, 2014, 05:32:58 AM »
Ive already posted here once so sorry for repeating myself. In short, theres a friendly feral cat that comes to us for food and it nipped my hand but did not bleed nor break skin. Itd been 2 weeks and it's still alive, but now I have a sore throat and muscle aches occasionally.I went to the doctors day after and he said I was fine and I did not get a shot.however Im now convinced that I have rabies, or is it just my anxiety? Also I am stressed out and have little sleep. Trying to resist googling  I need someones opinion.

You're fine the cat is still alive!!! The reason why an animal is quarantined for 10 days is because it would die before if it were rabid. I know it is hard to process the fact especially when anxious but please don't google it will make you feel worse

But that doesnt explain my random back and bicep pain that is on and off. And also the fact that I have a sore throat. Which is why I think I have rabies

You were bit by a cat not a bat so I'd say your fine.  Depending on where you live (I live in Maryland) we've only had one death in the last 40 years, and that came from a transfusion.

If it didn't break the skin it's impossible that you got it! Besides there was only 1 case of rabies from a cat in Cali last year. Most of the cases were from bats.

Anxiety perhaps? ;) Stress and worry causes you to tense your muscles, clench your jaw and the like. The fact that it's off and on backs that up as there are times you're less inclined to be stressed. Muscle cramps, twitching and the like are all symptoms of anxiety.

Well just when I thought I was good, its back. Now I have a cold and a slight headache. Arent these also symptoms of rabies? Or is this just my anxiety and stress? Someone please

The cat bite didn't even break the skin. There was no saliva-blood transfer. Your symptoms sound like anxiety. The cats still alive and so are you!
