Lymph node behind ear
« on: August 31, 2014, 06:54:41 PM »
This is one that I wasn't worried much about..until now. It has gone up and down in size. One time, it went down almost completely then I touched it andd it went back up again. it has never gotten bigger and its small, squishy and if I poke it enough, it hurts.
Anyways, my only concern is that compared to my other lymph nodes, it seems close to the surface. I've tried to take pictures of it and never see anything. Its been about a month-month and a half that it hasn\t changed in size. However, it obviously protrudes when i touch it.
So my question is, logically, I'm thinking this is just because there is less room behind the ear opposed to in the neck. So that's why it feels like it sticks out. is this normal??
Thanks.

(I've read that lymphoma nodes don't tend to be behind the ear anyways but I'm just wondering)>

I went to the doctor about a sore node behind my ear and he said it was a cyst. It comes and goes. He said no big deal.

A member/ friend has one that has remained for a long time.  He had it checked numerous times.  When he went to the dentist, he found he had four teeth that needed pulling due to abscess. That was the source of the infection causing the swollen gland.

Could be a cyst or just a normal lymph node. I don't think cancerous lymph nodes would get small and then go back to swollen again. My mom has had a swollen lymph node behind her ear her whole life. I have heard that some just stay swollen and never go back down. Since it isn't getting bigger but rather smaller and comes and goes doesn't sound alarming. I have noticed my lymph nodes getting big from constantly touching them myself so that's probably why! Hope you feel better!

I've had one behind my left ear for years. It goes up and down depending on my allergies, ear infections, etc. They only worry about it if it's growing quickly or is over 2 cm.
