Tongue feels like it's /anaphylaxis fear
« on: August 31, 2014, 03:11:06 PM »
Lately when I eat, I feel like my tongue/throat are swelling, even though I can't visibly see anything wrong with it. The tongue swelling feeling particularly comes after eating fruit which I'm mostly scared of eating. This has caused me quite a few panic attacks and I'm always terrified of anaphylaxis. I've never had an allergic reaction except I get stomach cramps when I eat certain fruit. Should I see a doctor over this or is this a normal anxiety thing?  :sick0002:

If you had Anaphylaxis, you would know it. I guarantee you that. There would be no question. If you're unsure, go to google, search for Anaphylaxis, and hit the "images" link.

I'm not afraid that the swelling feeling is anaphylaxis, just that it's going to progress into it if that makes sense?

I'm not sure if this will help you, but I've had the feeling that my throat is swelling shut every day for about a year. It's a scary feeling, but it hasn't actually closed on me. I've also felt that my tongue was getting bigger and nasal passages were swelling shut. I had the fear of anaphylaxis long before the feelings started coming on, so I'm starting to try to accept that these symptoms are created by my mind.

Reflux can cause strange sensations in the throat and mouth. I would still get an allergist to give you a test. I've had it done, and it's pretty easy. It would give the peace of mind, and most insurances cover it.

Well, let's put it this way. From your first post to your second post was close to four hours. If there were going to be a severe allergic reaction, it would have happened.

Thank you all for the answers, they're reassuring :) I'm slowly eating "fear foods" again, so I'm hoping that'll kick the fear.

I have severe food allergies and I had anaphylaxis shock during May this year......twice. One thing I can tell you is it happens within seconds and your throat will shut completely. You would not be able to breath and your face will blow up like a balloon. I carry two Epi-pen injectors just in case. Don't worry you are fine.
