Can Someone Please Look at me Lips & Tell me Your Opinion
« on: August 29, 2014, 08:36:54 PM »
Okay, I believe my lips looks a little blue or not normal. I look at other people like my teenage daughter (Im 50) and hers are bright pink. I am seeing what I believe to be a blue area at the edge. Pulse oxygen test last week was 91, normally its 99. The doc wasnt concerned with the 91. I am attaching pics so please be patient for the moderator to approve
Thanks!

Maybe its just my anxiety, but in the second picture notice how dark my lips are? I mean, I know they aren't blue per say, but they don't look pink to me. They look dark red going into to a purple blue. and on the lower lip at the line where it meets the regular skin, there is  darker border, especially near the corners. My fear is that this is the beginnings of blue, and low oxygen. Maybe I am just seeing things that aren't there. But its nice to have second opinions.

It's that right there ^^^. I recall seeing posts where a member swore just her hands were wasting away and another who thought their stomach was wasting away on only one side. Both of which are physiologically impossible.

I see the lines. They look darker (tan?) than the lips, NOT blue.

I went to the doctor with thin blue lines completely around my lips and he told me that the lips and other body parts fade as we age and other things tend to appear darker, etc. He told me to cover it with my lipstick.

Livestrong says you can actually tan around your lips and have the appearance of a dark line. It also says that people who tan easily will tend to have a dark line around their lips if they don't use sunscreen on their lips.

Medhelp says men can develop Melasma which can cause a dark outline around their lips and only skin bleaching and sun avoidance can change it.

Yes I guess tan. The thing is, sometimes I see them and other times I don't. thats why I thought maybe it was a lack of oxygen causing the discoloration. They don't look tan all the time. I was worried that maybe the tan was actually the beginning of blue. I know, Im obsessed with this lol. Last year it was my liver, now its my blood oxygen and lip color. Tomorrow it will be something else probably

ImObsessed,  I call it my 'disease of the day'.  I understand.

I think your coloring looks quite healthy.

Hey, I once went to the doc for my nail bed looking slightly blue and noticed the doc (25 years younger than me) had totally blue nails. His office was super cold. The heat had gone out.  I left worried about HIM. LOL

Thats funny! I was super obsessed over my nail color a few years ago. I have very white or pale nails. Had it since I was a kid. My dad has it too. Of course I assumed its my liver.

Dried out areas of skin maybe? Tan definitely isn't the beginning of blue, the beginning of blue is purple. Red transitioning to blue goes through pink and purple. Just look at a color wheel.

Well anyway, they look totally normal to me. If you hadn't mentioned that you thought there were tan areas, I wouldn't have noticed at all.

Go down a grape popsicle or something similar.  Eat it like a kid would, all lips and all messy.  Then see how purple you'll be.  My kids' pediatrician said that's the kind of blue that worries her, and that it's really hard to tell between a popsicle/otter pop/other blue-purple candy and a circulation problem.  Yours, thankfully, don't look anything like that.

So here is the latest. I know I shouldn't have done this, but I downloaded this app for $3.99 that measures oxygen and pulse. Im checking it all the time, especially when I think I see dark lines. Its always 94% or above. I hope its accurate
