All done and tests were normal :) feeling so good right now!
Doctor said there was no sign of any bc and tissue was healthy and normal.

They used the 3d thermo (?) mammogram machine which apparently gives very detailed results. So between that and the ultrasound, they must not have missed anything.

They did tell me I have heterogenously dense breasts which can hide small tumors-but I guess the ultrasound would pick them up?

Most young women have dense breasts... it's why some docs are shifting their view on mammos and recommending that people start later. But yes, u/s are great for picking up issues in dense breast tissue. My breast doc even gave me a little tutorial - he showed me photos of tumors vs. cysts and then he wanded mine and showed me how obviously cyst-like they are.

So you're all clear!  Time to celebrate!   :happy0180:

Congratulations on going through with the diagnostic mammo and coming out cancer free!    That is fantastic!

I am going for my diagnostic mammo (2nd one in six months) tomorrow and I am also fearful.  I think these mammos are torturous to us women who already have HA, but the alternative is to not go and risk something much worse.    I am going but like you, very scared.

My husband is going to take me as I get so scared I can barely talk let alone drive.  In my heart of hearts I know I am WAY overdoing the fearful thought that it is definitely cancer, and it will probably be the same as last time ("stable") no change, which is good.

I will come back tomorrow afternoon and hopefully report the same good result as you had!

My message is down a few on this forum.

Best wishes

Breast pain then finding a lump a year and a half ago are what made me a hypochondriac  :action-smiley-065: i did not have breast cancer then, but know the anxiety! Despite all the attention it gets, breast cancer is rare. Most women will never get it in their lifetime!

Please update with your good news!

Good luck, Nicollette - my mom had microcalcs, too. The doctors finally got super aggressive and biopsied her TWICE, but they never turned up anything.  I'm hoping they also do a follow-up ultrasound on you?  It is easier for them to spot things in dense tissue with thermal u/s.

I can't wait until our hospital finally gets one of those 3D breast ultrasound machines!  (Yep... these are the things people with HA get excited about.)

So my "good result high" wore off this morning.  Even though the imaging showed no signs of bc, the breast pain is still there. I have my annual obgyn appointment in 2 weeks. I haven't seen him before as I'm switching practices, but I'm optimistic that he'll have some advice.

Would a mammo/ultrasound show infection in a duct or a clogged milk duct?  Kind of wondering if that might be the case but have no clue since I weaned 9 months ago (but can still hand express a small amount of milk).

Anyway, I'm working hard to keep in mind that between a 3d mammo and ultrasound, they would've seen something sinister if it were there, and that this pain is NOT sinister so I can wait 2 weeks to see the obgyn.

Did they find any cysts on the u/s?  Those are the biggest causes of my breast pain. But sometimes women just have painful breasts.

They've ruled out any sinister causes, but your doc will probably look into any other possible causes. You can also try evening primrose oil capsules. When my breasts were at their worst, I used those and they totally stopped the pain. After a while, something changed - either my hormones calmed down or my diet improved and I didn't need them anymore.

No mention of cysts so not sure if I have them or not. Doctor was a radiologist not a breast specialist so I'm hoping for some more answers from the Gyno. Trying to keep faith that nothing was missed on the imaging :(

I'm sure nothing was missed in the imaging - they're very careful in the diagnostic mammos because you're there for a reason. Definitely ask the gyno if there were cysts mentioned in the report. But if not, sometimes breast pain just happens.
