Night sweats
« on: August 21, 2014, 08:13:13 PM »
Does anyone here get drenching night sweats and have you asked a doc about it? I get them sometimes and don't know when it is advisable to see someone about it. Lots of diseases (TB, HIV, etc.) present night sweats, but I imagine it might not be too abnormal to just have them, right?

It's Summer so a few now and again is normal but regular drenching night sweats... the kind that need a change of sheets should be discussed with your doctor.

It depends on when, how often and how badly you have them. Like fishmanpa said, it's common for people to get sweaty at night in the summer because it's hot. It can also happen sometimes in the winter when new blankets are added.

If they happen every once in a while when it's warm or you're having allergies or you've eaten something spicy or something like that, they're nothing to worry about. But if you're having drenching nightsweats (where it's like someone poured a bucket of water on you) for a couple of weeks and it's not weather-related, then check with your doctor.

I have had light ones when it is hot or before my period.  If they are drenching then you should speak to a doctor(not damp but needing to change sheets and pajamas, very uncomfortable).
