Sharp Constant Pain in Foot!
« on: August 21, 2014, 10:16:30 AM »
When I got out of bed this morning I almost screamed because the second I put pressure on my left foot and took a step I got an extremely sharp pain in my foot. I thought maybe my foot had fallen asleep when I had been in bed so I tried walking around the house yet the pain is persisting. If I don't put any pressure on it (and I'm just laying down) then there's no pain. It's only when I stand up/walk around that the pain becomes severe.

I'm trying not to freak out. Does anyone know what this could possibly be from?

dear Brittany,

I'm a third year Med student and I can guarantee you that minor tendon strains aren't uncommon. Your tendons/muscles probably were probably a bit tense from a wrong sleeping posture or a strain from the previous day. The moment you woke up, you must have putten a bit of pressure on your foot muscles/tendons.

These things are not uncommon. If the pain would have persisted when resting and if there were any other symptoms, than there could've been something more serious, but as it is right now, i wouldn't worry.

Best regards

It could just be a Charlie horse aka a tight muscle cramp/knot. They hurt like heck but are harmless. Just try and massages your foot.
It'll be fine.
Since you didn't do anything prior to possibly cause this I'm sure that's what's going on.
