I've had one in my breast for at least 3 years. It has all the characteristics and I've had a handful of ultrasounds which showed that it was simply a fibroadenoma. I refused surgery at the time because I was afraid of general anesthesia. Then I just let it go for a few years.
Since then, I've started to think about it again and am leaning towards wanting to take it out. However, I've changed doctors since that time and when i spoke to my new doctor about it, she said she doesn't think I need to and was against it because she mentioned something about surgery on the breast causing abnormal tissue and increasing the chance of cancer later on in life? I have never heard of this before and was baffled by it a bit. I can only find a few similar ideas online and was wondering if anyone has any other insight into this.
I know the mass is benign and fibroadenomas do not change into cancer but I still worry and wish I could just be rid of it..Would going to a walk in clinic allow them to refer me to a surgeon if I ultimately wanted?
