Leukemia info
« on: August 19, 2014, 07:21:44 PM »
Well I was told by a cancer specialist today that if I had acute leukemia by now I would be in the hospital and acute is what kids my age get if by the rare chance they do develop cancer. Also i felt a lot better today that I started school, no weakness , or any of that bs that I go though sitting at home worrying , the spleen area discomfort kind of bothered me but I was passing a lot of flatulance today (sorry ) and I forgot to mention at one point point this tightness on my left side ribs went away, surely cancer symptoms don't go away and come back? Also does 3.3 wbc mean 3.3 billion or 3.3 thousand ????? If it was thousand I'd be in big trouble healhthwise right? Also since my hemoglobin is 13.9 which is normal for my lab thst a godd sign against blood cancer? I've read that with leukemia your Hemoglobin would be low and your wbc would be through the roof from a dr at the ER , the only thin is since I think my spleen is swollen which cause low wbc, I can't enjoy all the positive aspects of what's going on that I just listed because I'm dwelling on that spleen thought even after 2 drs have felt around on my abdomen....so guys I just wanted to tell you today was a lot better but I'm still a bit worried .

A high white blood cell count is a sign your body is trying to fight an infection somewhere. I dont know what the ranges are but I am sure your Dr. saw them and knows its fine.

Your blood tests tell alot about what is going on in your body. A blood test will rarely tell what a problem is but it will tell if there is a problem. Normal blood tests are a solid indication nothing is wrong. I dont know your age, but leukemia is aggressive, very aggressive. You would be feeling quite unwell. The pains on your left side, although yes that is where your spleen is it is also the location for ALOT of digestive organs. Pain in the left side is usually related to your stomach which could well be in pain because of your gas.

All in all, two Dr.s have given you the all clear. That is two medical professionals who have dedicated their lives to understanding the human body. Trust their wisdom.

Nothing. There is nothing to do. You have had your tests and you were told by two experts that you are fine. So accept that.

Is there anything you are really good at and knowledgeable at? Computers maybe? Well imagine if someone had a problem with their computer and came to you for help and you told them it was booting slowly because they had too many programs trying to load at start-up and they should just remove some of them but they dont listen to you and go buy a new computer and end up with the same problem. Imagine how frustrating that would be ha. Listen to the experts, they know more than you will ever know about these subjects. Unless of course you study medicine! Which by the way takes over 10 years of in-depth study and case reports and experience building. If it was as simple as just googling symptoms why dont we all just go set up our own GP Offices.

You mean this thing?

Perfectly normal. Its more pronounced on some people. Less noticeable on others.

Thanks for  that link! So it's most like ely not my spleen sticking out? And thanks for that scenario! Never thought of it that way, I'm pretty sure with a cbc they look into things pretty good.... I even called the cancer society hotline and the lady said if I had any form of acute leukemia I would have been called immediately and admitted to the hospital because id be very I'll by now, I mean I get a little weak and my apetite is poor and all but I think my anxious thought amplify these feelings or if possible even create them, I go to the dr next week so she can up the dose of my xanax she said no more bloods needed for a year so.....I guess I'm good // I'll just keep praying and enjoying myself the best I can.. Btw what is that in the link? Didn't really show a lot?

exactly---it is your mind and anxiety doing this to you.

MOST anxiety occurs on a subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state

Lol Sixpack, is it true that I'd be really almost dead by now it's been a good 2 months I've been afraid of this....

listen at 19 the more common form of leukemia is AML.  which is what I think the doc you spoke of was talking about.  Under 10 or so it is ALL.     ALL is easier to cure.  I think cure rate is in 90%+ range.  I know two kids who were dx'd with that under age 10.  they are doing just fine.  I see one of those kids all of the time.  she bounced back like a champ.  she was dx'd at age 3 1/2.  She goes into 4th grade this year. the other young man I don't see anymore because we moved.

the other kiddo I knew developed AML.  it is a more severe form.  He was 11 or 12.  anyway he was dx'd after he developed strep throat and it didn't clear after two rounds of anti-biotics.  at that point the doc ran blood work.  his numbers were BAD.  not this namby pamby normal stuff you are talking about.    He was dx'd in October.  With treatment--chemo and bone marrow transplant and all that stuff, he died the following April 1.

so yeah you'd be SICK by now.

Now young man--go outside and play.   I can say that cuz I have a 19y old son myself,  and if he were talking like you, I'd have him outside playing too   :winking0008:

Thank you :) I know deep down that you're right but I still tend to worry...I wish I could get a referral easier but I guess if it changes like you said, then they'll give it to me faster.
I need to stop touching it..because I'm making the entire area sore.

Woah..I'm sorry idk why that posted there?? It was meant to go on my own thread..Either I'm going crazy or something glitched.

Anyways, my response to you as well is LISTEN TO SIXPACK. Don't fret about a few numbers low or high like she said. Leukemia is detectable fairly easily from blood work. Your blood work will be out of whack completely. And like she said as well, you would be very ill right now. Its not one of the cancers that can take years to show symptoms, you will feel it.
Your lack of appetite and exhaustion is anxiety. I have had it as well and when I was worried about lymphoma, I was worried about those feelings as well because cancer has those symptoms. But when they say loss of appetite + exhaustion it means EVERYONE will see it and that it will be very bad. I knew a girl with leukemia as well (she survived and she is fine, she was diagnosed around 17), her blood work was extremely off and she was sleeping almost literally all day long. Everyone knew something was up.
You have done everything you can, you are totally okay.

Good LORD do you not actually understand what I wrote or what the doctors told you or that your bloodwork was NORMAL???????

YOUR BLOOD WORK DOES NOT SHOW ANY SIGN OF BLOOD CANCERS!!!!!

this boy's blood work WAS BAD.  YOURS IS NORMAL!!!!  Quit making yourself a victim of cancer when you don't have it.  It does not matter how scared you are or what your anxious thinking is telling you.  Because you are wrong

your number on the wbc was not in the range that says LEUKEMIA.

and you are still under the delusion ( I know strong word) that doctors and labs and stuff LIE to people out of, IDK, grins or for fun.  What would be their motivation to do such a lame assed thing?  Are the doctor and the Lab staff sociopaths?  that would be the ONLY explanation.  however I don't can you say that with a straight face.   because that it is a ludicrous notion.

Now you can go on with this if you want, however, again you are wrong
