relapse on 10mg prozac
« on: June 29, 2008, 09:43:15 PM »
Ive been taking 10 mg of prozac for 6 weeks now. during the 3rd or 4th weeK I started feeling much better and this lasted for 16 days then the anxiety and depression came back with a vengeance and has stayed with me for the past 8 days. my doc wont increase my prozac until Im compleltely off effexor. Im down to 37.5 mg of effexor and will be off in 5 days. has anyone had any relapses like this and does anyone think it will get better once I increase to 20mg . could reallu use encouragement,,thanks

Did the symptoms come back when you reduced the effexor?  It may be that you felt better on both drugs when the effexor dose was higher, and now that its lower, that bad stuff is returning.  If that is the case, I would assume you will feel better when the prozac is increased.  Good luck, I hope you feel better!

Docs are not always so aware of the discontinuation from antidepressants.  No matter how slowly you go down, with each decrease, there is a chance of symptoms.  If it is from the effexor reduction, just give it a little time.  I decreased very slowly also, and when I stopped altogether, I had about 3 days or so of dizziness/vertigo.  Then it passed.

I can deal with dizziness or vertigo,,,,its just the depression,,anxiety,,,insomnia etc.. thats making every day just so hard to get through. work has been a nightmare as well. I just hope the increase in prozac will more than make up for the loss of effexor in me during these next couple weeks

Just remember it takes a couple of weeks for the prozac to build up in your system. I know its hard to hear, but give it some time, you will feel better.
