Worried food stays in my stomach too long?
« on: July 04, 2014, 08:09:32 PM »
Is there anyone out there that has similar symptoms to this with their gerd? Or anxiety?

After eating I burp up food, into my throat or my mouth. Also my burps taste like what I ate upwards to a few hours AFTER I ate it. I don't think that's normal. I'm worried abou gastroparesis or some kind of digestive cancer. I'm a 23 year old male so I know the odds are slim. But I'm obsessing. And I won't be able to see a GI for quite awhile, so I have to wait with these symptoms, meanwhile I can't enjoy life.

Anyone dealing with similar symptoms? I too have a lack of appetite.

I would try OTC Prilosec or OTC Nexium and see if that helps. You could also try Tums or Zactac.

Don't know if that will help seeing it's been almost 6 hours since I ate, and I'm still having burps and reflux that taste like the pad thai I ate.

This is not normal. Something is seriously wrong.

From what I've read its not unusual for food to still be in your stomach 6-8 after eating.

Are you taking any antacids or acid reducing drugs?  If so... stop.   It sounds like you don't have ENOUGH acid.   Acid is what helps digests your food, if you don't have enough, the food will stay there a LOT longer than it should.
Several years ago I was having severe heartburn and started a prescription acid reducer,  I was taking it for a couple of months when I then began getting bad indigestion (burping food in my throat, liquid burps, feeling like stuff was hanging around in my throat after I ate...)  I then researched it and came up with "low acid level" - so I stopped the drugs and in a week or so I began clearing up.
