Anyone here ever pulled or strained a neck muscle?
« on: June 28, 2014, 04:59:07 PM »
I have a very old bed. It sits on the floor and the middle of the bed sinks really bad. The springs are popping up and I can't keep my head propped up cause I end up slouching and when I pull up to get adjusted might be what pulled it or strained it from moving my neck the wrong way cause last week I noticed that the back of my head hurt like I had pulled something and turning my head makes it hurt more and one morning the back of my neck was hurting really bad. And now it's more in the back of my head and is interfering with me trying to go sleep. It's hurting right now. I have to be careful how I move my head. How do I treat this? If it's a neck muscle the neck itself not hurting. It's that one spot in the back of my head where that muscle it at. I tried muscle run, and heating pad. I take ibruprophen. It's very painful at times. Like a cramp.

Oh god, sleeping on a sunken bed is the worst! I feel ya...

Your neck problem could either be from a muscle or bone. Best bet, get to a massage therapist and let them know what's wrong. I always have neck/back pain because of mild scoliosis, and it's incredible how much better you can feel after a good massage.

If you keep having pain after a massage, it might be skeletal. You might want to see a chiropractor or your normal doctor and have an x-ray done to make sure you didn't dislodge a vertebra or something.

In the meantime, you need an even, flat surface to sleep on. It will help your spine & neck straighten back out. That might mean sleeping on a flat couch, in a sleeping bag on the floor, etc. It's best to have a thin pillow, or none at all, so you don't overextend your neck.

Ok thanks for tips. It feels better now. Sometimes I hear the back of my head pop. Like bones. Sounds gross. Lol.
