Well to start off, nice to meet you all!  On 5/16/2014 I was unloading and packing out truck at my job, CVS.  On 5/17, I had that saturday off and woke up to numbness and tingling in my right arm that I thought was due to sleeping on my arm or so.  Through out the day it went away, but later in the week it would come and go.  Then on 5/23/2014 while working on truck my arm got heavy and had the numbness and tingling again.  I called 2 dr's(I have no insurance) who feared I was having a stroke or heart attack.  I went to a hospital near work and was diagnosed with carpel tunnel.  I was told to see a hand specialist if symptoms didn't clear by the weekend.  As the hours went by, I had tightness and severe pain throughout my hand, wrist, and bicep going towards my shoulder.  Low and behold, come a few days later my left arm started to show similar signs.  I went to anther hospital who said it was possibly due to Rheumatoid Arthritis, even though no swelling was really present.  At this point, I couldn't open my hands to hold a fork, or even to hold the stearing wheel to drive.  I started to google my symptoms which MS, Lupus, RA, cancer, etc came up.  I was becoming depressed and sure I had one of these diseases.   Finally my hand specialist appointment came and I was diagnosed with double neuropathy unknown.  I was instructed to see a neurologist who was to administer a nerve conduction  test and an EMG.  After a few days of being on prednisone I had a back side affect and was in severe pain/depressed.  I rushed to an urgent care clinic where the nice doctor told me he was certain it was carpel tunnel and cubinal tunnel as my pinky and ring finger were affected as well.  He told me come the day of my nerve conduction and EMG test, that I would have my answers and be positive for carpel and cubbinal tunnel.  Well I had the tests done and the doctor told me on the spot that my nerves and muscles were good and the test was negative for carpel tunnel.  So I asked the neurologist what I may have then.  He told me it was more likely an anxiety issue.  Being I had another diagnosis now,  I went to my now family doctor where he told me I most likely have residual carpel tunnel that didn't show up on the nerve conduction and EMG as it had already had started to heal or was so mild the test couldn't pick it up.  He also stated I have anxiety/depression with Fibromyalgia LIKE symptoms.  With my mind at ease, I started to feel better and was able to start eating on my own, driving and so forth.  Come a few days later I started to read up on MS, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, RA, etc, I started to get sad and anxious again.  I managed to go back to work(was now out of work 3 weeks as I couldn't drive or due much) but was now able to do things.  I noticed my first day went well but the 3 days of work after, I was feeling more fatigue than usual, started getting shin splint  like pain in my shins, and burning/itching like feelings throughout my body that lasted like 3 sec each time it presented itself.  It was mostly on my scalp, arms, and shins.  Well yesterday on 6/24/2014 I did a follow up with the hand specialist who told me I don't have carpel tunnel and that he believes I have anxiety issues causing the symptoms/pain.  I asked him, could it be MS, and he assured me it wasn't.  I want to believe him as he seemed caring and so sure of it, and he did have a similar diagnosis  as my family doctor, but I don't know what to believe.  I know the burning shin pain symptoms aren't has prevalent today and the itchyness is less too.  Does MS come and go that quick and would I have all those symptoms right away?  I don't know what to think at this point.  I do kind of think it might just be all anxiety issues but would it cause hand and arm pain similar to carpel tunnel.  Even today as I type, I feel  a throbbing in my palm near the ring and pinky finger.  Is this all in my head?  Any advice or words of wisdom are appreciated! = )

anybody?   I can't seem to put my mind at ease.  Right now I took a shower to try and calm down so I can get some sleep as I have work at 7am, but felt like itchy/pin like sensation on my arms and there is a slight aching in my right palm almost dead center.  Then my right index and right middle finger are kind of aching too but they don't look swollen.  Is this all in my head or could I be suffering from MS?

I'm sure you don't have MS, but why don't you go and get tested for it? I don't want to scare you but your symptoms seem odd to me. My mom was diagnosed with MS back in 2008 and when she was first diagnosed her symptoms were the worst chronic migraine for a month straight, vomiting, fatigue, and overall weakness in the arms and legs. The first few years she did have a few relapses, just severe weakness in the legs and tremors in her hands. She can be very weak and can tire easy. But don't let that scare you; even though she has MS, she's been relapse free since 2010. Her brain scans are no longer showing new lesions and she hasn't had a new symptom in 4 years. MS doesn't have to be something scary. I'm sure you don't have it, but I witness this disease first hand everyday and it seems to me that the only people that are severely affected by it are the ones that take it as a death sentence. My mom has several friends with MS and every single one of them lives a normal healthy life, because they refuse to let it beat them. You really should talk to your dr about your concerns though, and push to get tested for it. I'm sure you are fine, you just seem really concerned and I wanted to let you know that this really isn't something that has to scare you. Best of luck to you! :)

I'm new to these forums as well.  And I LOVE them.  I hate that we all have this horrible problem of hypochondria though.

Rckstr1253 - these symptoms you have can all be attributed to anxiety.  While I'm not a dr, a few have seen you recently and they are trained to sort out whether or not you need to be tested for MS and they haven't said you need testing.  I've been dealing with a lot of tingling sensations and itchy bumps on the back of my head, stomach cramps, tinnitus - and I believe it's all related to my massive anxiety and depression.  Our bodies are stuck in fight or flight and our hormones get all whacked out.

What's been helping me lately - learning a new habit to replace the 'track' my mind takes when I have a strange symptom.  Our minds create tracks for things we do normally like driving cars, for instance - I drive a 5 speed mustang but never have to think about shifting gears and putting seat belt on and all that because my mind has created a track for driving.  Now, for for my health anxiety - my mind has created a track. When I have a symptom (which we all have, healthy or not) my mind has a track like this - look in mirror 20 times, call mom, google symptoms, break out in sweat, cry, worry, call dr, catastrophes, worry, and before you know it I've got like a handful more symptoms because I'm in total fight or flight.  I'm working on creating a new track now.  When I have a symptom I do some diaphragmatic breathing exercises, turn on some good music, stay away from google and come to this site.  It's helping tremendously.  I hope this made sense.  I'm not the best at explaining things simply.

And I can't urge enough for everybody dealing with the anxiety like we do - go see a therapist!  It's so so so refreshing!  I've been going twice a week and I'm proud of myself for it.

Thanks all for the replies!  I did ask my hand specialist whether he thought it was MS and he said "HELL NO. just anxiety issues causing runaway nerve signals that make the pain.  I asked my family doctor and he said it was residual carpel tunnel with anxiety/depression/fibromyalgia like symptoms.  But now after seeing my family dr I have some pain in the legs as if the muscle is being torn from the bone.  I only feel it if I cross my legs as I'm laying down.  I still do have a sharp muscle like pain in the upper left arm, but the doctor said its from anxiety.  I was told by the doctor that if ms had caused the arm pain/carpel tunnel pain, that I wouldn't of had the strength to push his arms away while he applied resistance.  He said MS weakens the muscles after an attack and that the EMG would of showed some muscle damage at least.

I don't know if I'm losing my mind but should you have leg pain like the muscle is being torn from the bone.  I was told anxiety can do that but idk.   I just hope it's not ms or ALS or something

Could just be a simple cramp.  Eat a banana as it has a lot of potassium and make sure to take some nice walks to stretch everything out.  During times of stress we tense up and don't get much exercise.  If you're able to do some lite stretching and walk a little you'll feel a ton better.  Also, maybe try a hot bath and listen to a little music at same time.  I personally find bath time + soft music like The Alan Parson's project (I'm old ;) very relaxing.

Your leg is probably just asking you to take it out and let it see some pavement ;)

Deep breath

And don't cross your legs as you're laying down ;)

Seriously, I fly a lot and 'they' always say not to cross your legs because it cuts off the circulation and can even bruise you.

A few weeks back I had a very bruised feeling on my lower back.  Of course I started tripping out.  It was specifically located right around a small area of my spine on my lower back.  It wasn't like a sore muscle but more of a sharp pain.  After thinking and thinking and searching and worrying and going nuts, I realized what it was...  It was from going to the pub and spending hours leaning my back up against a low bar while I drank beer and played pool..  Your leg could be hurting for the simple fact that you've crossed them while laying down and maybe they don't like that.  There's usually a very simple and benign reason for the symptoms we all find.

Deep breath..

I hope you're right.  I'm just worried it's ALS or ms as first it started in my hands and wrists and a few weeks later that cleared up but now I have shin splint like pain when I walk or so and it's only every often, and occasionally muscles twitches in my legs and bicep.  I also have jolts of electricity all over my body at times and itchiness.

Anxiety my friend.  I'm having jolts too as I type this just like you're describing, and of course I've been worrying about them too.  The jolts are about 6 inches above my ankle area..

Think of how powerful anxiety is like this..  When you're in fight or flight - you can totally physically feel it..  Butterflies and sweat and that nervous feeling..  Right now we're in fight or flight - but we are blaming the symptoms on something completely irrational such as illness and whatnot.  We're full of extreme amounts of energy in way of anxiety.  Lots of tingling, sweating, shakiness, cramps, etc...

Yea anxiety sure could be the culprit.  It just sucks that I was fine until may 16 th when my arm went numb.  I then had a throbbing pulsating pain in my arm, and Palm of my hand. The. It went to the next hand or arm.  Heck today  getting shocks in my testicle( not to be gross or rude).  And it hurts but it's like a sec and gone. Big I did ms would all these symptoms have come on in about a month?  Would my hands and arms have recovered within 2 to 3 weeks?   I'm so confused and tired.

Well, good question about why would arms recover and then legs get shocks, or testicle in your case (btw I thought of Napoleon dynamite and the time machine ;))..  But, think of this.. Don't we always have some kind of health worry right?  And once we 'recover' from something which was never a real issue, we find something else wrong with ourselves which turns out to be nothing wrong in the first place.  So your arm was numb and painful which could have been simply sleeping wrong or lifting something wrong.. And it recovers.. And naturally types like us must find a new symptom to focus on.

I'll go TMI here too - I had muscle cramps under my belt line which I though could have been appendix, but then it spread to both sides, and while feeling around I got convinced my testicles were also cramping...  Then of course tugging on them made it worse.  I stopped eating sriracha and nachos for a day and left my testies alone and today I feel great.  Was probably IBS.

Let your arm feel better, let your leg feel better, and instead of finding another thing wrong lets you and just take 5 deep breaths every time we have a new symptom, visit to site, and reaffirm that we're not alone in all this..  Then listen to some music and get out and take a little walk or water the plants or something..

I don't know it all, really.  Not trying to sound preachy..  I'm in therapy so I'm actually trying to just share some of this tags I'm learning which are helping me...

And one more thing - trust your body to keep you healthy.  Your body is once seriously complex and smart and powerful machine..

Getting a dull like ache inn the elbow as I'm working. It kind of hurts when moving my arms and similar to how my " carpel tunnel" symptoms came on before my whole arm went numb and tingly.   I'm definitely scared this can't be anxiety.  :(

I am also dealing with hands numbness/tingling right now.... also tingling in my feet... pain in my arms, sciatica pain in my leg.... I don't know what's going on. Blood work is ok, except low iron, which I did iron infusions for it. I saw a chiropractor many times who told it's coming from my neck.... but going to the chiro is getting too expensive. I am trying now the egoscue method, google pain free book. I hope it helps. Good luck!
