My OCD In Prose

O.C.D. Intrudes On Me

The thoughts run ramped,
Like a barnyard full of bulls.
By chasing them so constantly,
My mind is always full.

Intrusive thought exhausts me;
I try keeping them at bay,
But the more I try to quash them,
The more they're in the way.

The defense my mind has built,
To keep the demons quelled,
Is also the one that haunts me,
Creating this tailor-made hell.

I used to drink them away,
Softening their roaring din,
But alcohol comes with a price,
That I'm not ready to ante in.

My daughter and divorce,
As strange as it may sound,
Saved me from my self,
And allowed me to rebound.

Writing is the single tool,
I can use to dull the pain.
Spewing thought on digital paper,
The only way to fight disdain.

It's a socially awkward thing,
Having all this pent up inside,
But I have to show myself,
I'm not a coward who runs and hides.
