Feeling like you're getting TOO much air??
« on: June 20, 2014, 04:54:39 AM »
I know that with anxiety you can feel short of breath. But as I lay here I'm afraid of going to sleep because I feel like I'm getting too much air when I breathe in and it's making me feel light headed. And it just feels unnatural. So my brain keeps thinking I'm dying and I'm afraid to go to sleep. Has anyone ever had this issue and or have tips on what I could do to stop this?

This may be because you are focused on how you breathe. If you take in too much air it can make you dizzy. That is take it in too quickly. Just try and let yourself relax and the breathing part will happen by itself. Maybe put a radio on to distract your mind / thoughts. Never gulp for air. Just try and slow yourself down. Once you do this everything will work as it should work. It is more just because you are focusing on it.

Yeah. That's what I'm assuming it's from. However I wasn't feeling well a few hours before. (Dizziness and stomach ache) that went away mostly but then this started. I'm trying to distract myself. It is proving to be quite difficult though. But thank you for the reply.

Once you become aware of something you focus more on it. It is like feeding a fear. By just thinking about it you are making it worse. I am sure if you found something to do and your mind was not on this problem, you would see it all clear up. Because you would be no longer feeding the fear. It can take a bit of practice. Just take your time with it. It might not work right away. These are all things we have to learn.
