Mishpaz, keep us posted! My coworker went on Cymbalta (kind similar to Lyrica) for severe situational depression and she also had very bad back pain (surgeries etc) and it worked! I asked her how she was doing one day (a few months after she started taking it) and she said she felt so much better. She went from having to lay down in her office everyday crying and in pain to normal again. Lyrica is even newer (I think) so hopefully that means better :) please keep us posted!

My coworker went on Cymbalta (kind similar to Lyrica)

These are two different classes of meds. Cymbalta (duloxetine) is a SNRI class antidepressant, Lyrica (pregabalin) is an anticonvulsant which may ease anxiety but is unlikely to do much for depression.

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all advice is of a general nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.

Insights, thanks for the clarification on Lyrica, I must have gotten confused when my dr. was talking about them.  He probably meant that they can both be used for pain or anxiety. Lyrica is one drug I haven't tried! But still keep us posted Mishpaz!

Just an update on klonopin.  It's working great for me.   For the past 6 weeks I've been on 1 mg a day.
It's returned me to normal.

I know my doc had mentioned Gabapentin as something to consider down the road.  But increasingly I'm thinking
klonopin is going to be my partner for some time.  I know I just must be careful not to over-indulge, etc.
Not a problem with me.  I take my meds with great precision.

Glad to hear the Klonopin is working out well for you. I too am on 1 mg of it daily, and have felt that it acts almost as a shield against panic. It's a safe medication, and one that you won't be likely to forget to take, because you realize how effective it is at suppressing high anxiety. It's no magic bullet, but it's a great med. It's also typically a lot more effective than gabapentin at treating anxiety.

It's advisable for many people who are on benzo's to pair up the medication with an antidepressant. That helps for when it comes time to eventually wean off of the benzo (if you choose to do so). Being entirely med-free isn't a realistic option for most of us GAD sufferers, so having a strong AD in the background is a sound strategy. Opinions vary on this, but it's something to consider.

Thanks, Andrew.

I also have bipolar so I do take prozac and lithium so my AD is covered.  And personally, I don't plan on getting off klonopin
if I don't have too.  I've been on the P&L for 20 years and it's working fine.  I'm amazed at how much better I feel with klon!
