Goodbye Buspar, Hello Klonopin
« on: June 17, 2014, 09:48:45 PM »
Saw my new psych today.  We agreed I should taper off buspar. and try out Klonopin.
Day 1 begins tomorrow with half a pill of .5 mg Klonopin.  I'm intrigued to see how this goes.
I tried Klon 5 years ago during a very stressful job.

Now I'm deal with a regular job but more GAD-created stress.  So I hope I respond even better
to Vitamin K.  When I took it last time, I did not have any addiction issues.  And two of my friends
have happily been on Klon for some years.

I've also learned the importance to reclaiming my sense of humor.  I went through the day today
looking for humor and lightness in all situations.  And just searching for the humor made me smile
and feel better.  Anyway, I'll let people know how I do on Klon.  I hope I'm one of those that
responds well and that can take it over a long period of time.  (The other med my doc suggested
was gabapentin.)

Best of luck! I have been taking Klonopin for the last few months (PRN) to help with acute anxiety as well as an AD for the chronic stuff. I find the Klonopin really helps take away the immediate symptoms and helps even me out emotionally. I think, for me at least, the one down side has been that when I have taken it I don't feel feelings in the same way. They are subdued. But hey, it's better than being nauseous and freaking out for no reason!  :P

Thanks, Abigail.  Could I ask what was the starting dose of Klonopin you took?  I'm starting at .25 mg.  Or half a .5 mg pill.

I've been on .5mg for over a month.  Started at 2 per day.  I'd say on good days I get relief for 8 hours on bad days I get a couple of hours.  I'm also on zoloft... 8 or 9 weeks on that.

Hi Comoso, did you say you take .5 mg twice a day?

I'm at .25 once a day which I started this morning.  But I didn't feel any affect.
I've asked my doc if I should increase because I know you usually feel klonopin
within like 30 minutes.

It usually takes 20-30 minutes for Klonopin to even enter the bloodstream, and 1-2 hours to reach the maximum plasma level. It will build up in the plasma over the next week or so to around 2-3 times the one off dose.

I take it once a day, upon waking.  I "feel" it work about 1 hour later usually.  I did start at twice a day, but I'm down to once a day.  I've been struggling a lot lately and wondering about going back up, but completely feel like a failure in doing so so I've been putting myself through heck fighting it off...

Hi WorldBeat99,  :action-smiley-065:

As your body gets used to Klonopin (as you figure out your best dosage range)  - I am pretty sure you feel much better throughout the day against anxiety and GAD.  The beauty of Klonopin and Diazepam is the long lasting protection compared to the other shorter lasting Benzodiazepines.  I was able to get to just one dose per day vs. taking something else every 4-6 hours.

Especially compared to Buspar, you should feel a long lasting "Shield" against GAD and random anxiety.

Let us know how you continue to do!

I take .25mg as well. When it's really bad and I can't get myself under control (like when my grandma died a couple of weeks ago) I took .5mg. The most I've taken in one day is .75mg. Keep us updated on how you are feeling on it!

Thanks, Neverquit, Insights, Abigail, cosmoso -- for your input.  My doc gave me the ok to go up to .5 mgs.

I did sense that this afternoon, when I tend to feel more anxious getting off from work, I felt pretty relaxed.
So that's a good sign.

Insights, that helpful to know that klon will build up in my system over the week.

I will let folks know how I progress.

Never, I went up to 1.0 mg today for Day 3 of Klonopin.  I'm looking for that
mellow feeling Klonopin can give.  I suspect I'll feel it soon.

So I took .5 klon in morning and .5 in afternoon.  I'd say by evening, I was feeling
pretty smooth and relaxed.  I will see if this continues over the next few days.  I hope so.

Now my attention is turning back to my creative project -- revising my second novel.  That's a good sign.

Today, Sunday, I took 1 mg Klonopin.  Instead of just mellowing me, it made me tired.

But yesterday, I'd take .5 mg in am and .5 in pm.  That seemed to lead to a new relaxation in the evening.

So tomorrow, I'm going to tak .5 mg pill in morn.  And .5 mg pill in pm.  That seems to be a better flow for me.
Anyone else have a similar experience?
