food and saliva going down wrong hole.
« on: June 17, 2014, 09:08:57 PM »
I noticed for the past 2-3 days every now and then I would drink water and it would go to wrong hole sometimes. and earlier when playing video games some saliva slid down to wrong hole too. is this something to worry about?

I'm going to bet you were talking / doing something else while swallowing your water / saliva. If you're really concerned - go see a doc. Idk what would even cause that, to be honest haha. Often a cold / allergies w post-nasal drip can irritate the back of your throat and alter the way you swallow / increased feeling or need to swallow...I'm thinking maybe this, if there is a lot of pollen in your area! I know where I live, allergy season is in full swing!

Yeah -- this happened to me a few days ago, actually.

I was drinking out of a faucet-head and choked. Then had a mini-panic-attack for like an hour afterward.

Anxiety's known to cause difficulty swallowing. Unless you cannot swallow or aspirate thin liquids every time, successively, don't worry about it.

It's probably a good thing. I don't really talk about my issues on the forums any more, either.

I do PM Shawn about newly arising symptoms and bug the sh*t out of him, otherwise I belong supporting people with neurological fears. I've accrued all this pretty useless information about ***, I may as well disseminate it the one place it could be important. And, I know how bad anxiety can be and would be totally in dereliction of duty to not help out where I'm able.

Sometimes we act as if we have finally experienced THE SYMPTOM.  As if we have never choked on a fluid before now.  If you would have choked on some water a couple years ago what would you have done?  Nothing, shrugged it off and went on with your life most likely.  But now that you have read too much you associate it with something bad.  Water goes down the wrong way, or a bit too fast and we panic.  It's common.  If it becomes an issue where you can't through a water bottle without consistently aspirating then worry.
