HELP!! Mole fears now :( Please someone help me.
« on: June 17, 2014, 12:33:17 PM »
The other day I had what I thought was a pimple on a small mole on my face.  I popped the pimple but in the process accidentally scratched off the mole! (Sorry, gross.)  It's scabbed over but there's a ring of redness around it now that has me worried maybe it was actually melanoma and not a pimple and that it was my mole changing.

Now today I was mindlessly itching an area below my collar bone that happened to be atop a small mole.  The mole sort of hurt when I scratched it (though I was scratching VERY LIGHTLY).  That was like a emergency siren going off in my head.  So I ran to the bathroom to look at it and there is a red ring around it the mole!!  Oh my gosh, I'm so freaking out that I have melanoma now.  I'm out of town and can't go to the doctor for a few days.  Someone please help me!  Is this melanoma?  Am I going to die of this?  Please, please help.

Just to be clear, I was scratching VERY lightly, hardly at all so I don't think the redness was a result of that.  It's a perfect red ring around the mole :(

Can't see your pic - or just can't figure out where to find it. BUT - my mom died of melanoma from a mole. It was huge and not round and rigid and Multi- colored and to this day we don't know why she didn't get it removed sooner, but you would know. Just go to a derm if you want - basal cell / squamous cell cancers or even ore-cancerous lesions are so easy to remove - a lot of like cancer stats sites and what not (NOT that I've been searching heh  :laugh3: ) don't even count them in with their statistics. Also - if you've been in the sun , it might just be irritated. That could be why you are itchy to begin with. Don't worry about moles - honestly.   I've been lectured about this for years. Just go to your derm once a year and they will remove anything that they deem a threat. It's so so so preventable :) good luck!!!

Thanks, nikol.  You can't see the pic because it's still waiting for approval to be posted.  But I am so sorry to hear about your mom :(  Thanks for the reassurance, I really wish you could see my pic though :-\

I'll check back. Derms offices always have charts, too that show good mole vs. bad mole. But don't google it - it's a never ending cycle from there :) worst case scenario is they remove it (I think you can even ask them to if it is bothering you - not sure if that is just because I have a family history...) and you'll have a little hole-scar thing for a bit, then you'll be fine. Melanoma itself ( not basal / squamous cell carcinoma!) is a cynical cancer when you let it run rampant or catch it too late, or you have an unknown gene mutation that can cause it to just happen spontaneously - very rare, and you probably would have already known about it.

Melanoma foundation has a lot of good info - try their website! They try to prevent widespread panic but do a good job of getting their point across of what should get looked at it and what is just a normal mole!

Sounds like you just scratched a mole. How big was this mole and what color was it?

Doesn't like melanoma at all though

Also was the mole flat or raised and how long have you had it?

Also I cant see the pic

hey! That looks more like a mini freckle than a mole :) definitely no worries there! Trust me...you'd know. If that's the biggest blemish you have on your skin....I envy you immensely! Haha :) be happy!
