Pls help worried about my baby!!
« on: June 14, 2014, 05:20:11 PM »
Hi so my daughter is 13 months old and ever since she was about 6 months old she would get these small petechia rashes on her skin mainly on her shins they are never very clustered mainly sporadic about 8 at most on her lower legs. I have taken her the doctor and she has gotten 2 cbcs that all come back normal!! But I'm still mortified that she should could a blood disorder or disease!! The doctor is very reassuring that my baby girl is fine but I can't help but Google and be frightened!! She also has very dry skin and I am not sure if this could be factor since dry skin can be more sensitive and easier to break capillaries.  Please give me some advice should I take her to a pediatric hemotologist? Has anybody baby had petachie before? Please don't ignore this post I'm a hot mess and need support and advice!! Thank you!!

Did the pediatrician say it's actually petechiae? Or do you assume it is based on google? Petechiae doesn't just come in "8spots" here and there. It would look like a serious rash under the skin. If your pediatrician saw it and wasn't concerned - ESPECIALLY after blood work, she's fine. If he thought, even for a second, that there was some remote possibility that something serious could be going on, he wouldn't risk a lawsuit - he would order more tests or refer you to the proper specialist.

Random petechiae are a part of life - it just means something got bumped or squished.  I'm guessing at her age, she's mobile but unsteady, so she's probably bumping into things a lot.

You CAN help googling.  Stop it.  If her CBCs are normal, there's nothing bad going on with her blood.

Normal CBCs, unconcerned medical PROFESSIONALS and no other symptoms other than what looks like petechia = nothing to worry about. Trust me I am a momma if 4 and have EXTREME anxiety over my health as well as theirs but like my husband tells me over and over do not worry until you have a real reason to worry. Like the doctors say ok let's worry now. Your daughter sounds perfectly healthy. Something would have showed up on blood work if she had a disorder that would cause petechia.

Just FYI - I have ITP - a condition where my immune system destroys my platelets - ergo my blood doesn't clot and I get petechiae, nose bleeds, gum bleeds, ect. If there was a problem, it definitely would have shown up on a CBC. Rest easy mama.

Thank you so much for the support you all made me feel so much better!! It's hard having hypochondria but it's even harder to control it when you have a baby to worry about :( yes the doctor did say they were petechiae but that her cbcs and clotting factor all came back normal no anemia normal platelets wbc was 15.3 but they said for babies her age the norm is 6-17.5 and so she was within the norm. The only thing they said was that her lymphocytes were slighty above the norm but nothing to be concerned about. The doctor said that it's very common in babies and toddlers to see slighty higher lymphocytes.  The doctor also said that she consulted with another doctor just to make sure she wasn't missing anything and they both agreed that my baby girl is perfectly healthy and growing beautifly. She did tell me to stay off Google and to just enjoy my baby girl and that if I have concerns over my baby not to Google but to call her she knew I was very worried and spent like 15 mins on the phone reassuring me that my baby is fine! It's just that whenever I see those little dots I panic! Have you seen these on your babies? Your right mollyfin my baby is very playful and like to play with big toys and bang them all around and on her legs. I know I shouldn't worry and I will try not but but when that fear of the L word starts I go down a whirlwind!! I guess two cbcs should prove to me that she is healthy and that I have nothing to worry about!!
