Would my neurologist have called by now?
« on: June 14, 2014, 05:00:23 PM »
Had a STAT MRI done on Thursday morning. Called the imaging center early Friday morning and they said the report was finalized and already sent to the doctor. I went into just answer.com and an oncologist on there told me that radiologists do a "wet scan" of the images before they write their report, and if they see something on the "wet scan" they call the doctor before doing their report.

If I had a brain tumor, would the neurologist have called by now?

My mind just keeps thinking "maybe he'll make me wait until my appointment in a week?" Ugh. Wish I could just put this behind me.

If you had a life-threatening problem you would have heard by now.

I can't think of a single doctor that would wait a week to call a patient if they had a brain tumor.  The fact you haven't had a call from your doctor should be a good sign....try to think of in that light....try to tell yourself, "I don't have a brain tumor cuz the doc didn't call" rather than "I hope he doesn't tell me in a week that I have a brain tumor"  You are simply setting yourself up for this to cause you more anxiety.  By not getting a phone call, take that as an "all clear" on the MRI

Yes he would have called. I had a benign issue and my doctor waited till my follow up appointment. If it was something more serious, she would have called sooner.

Well of course, that's natural. But the thing that's creating the situation where you won't consider the logical and rational conclusion is the root of all this. Until you address that it'll be some other thing once you're cleared of a brain tumor. This is anxiety.

You're right i960 - it probably will be something after this. I just wish I was already cleared. I'm so scared he's going to call tmrw or Tuesday or Wednesday OR Thursday OR tell me at my appt on Friday that I have a brain tumor. I wish I could feel at rest right now about it :-(

Listen, when my dad had a brain tumor, they told him right away. Generally speaking, they want to move as fast as they can when comes to figuring out what those are.

Bottom line, WE DON'T KNOW why the doctor hasn't called yet—if it's because you're in the clear or if they haven't gotten the results, but I promise you, continually asking for reassurance about this is not helping your HA. Trying to simply get rid of your worry isn't an effective way to reduce your anxiety. Be worried—nothing is really going to stop that, because if it did you'd have stopped asking about this long ago.

In case anyone is still confused:  googling your symptoms will cause you to remain in a state of extreme anxiety. Stepping away from the internet is the first step toward lasting peace.

Well at this point I'm guessing no news is good news.
