Brain MRI peeps!
« on: June 12, 2014, 01:00:10 PM »
How did you get through the wait for the results? Did your doctor call you or did you find out your results at your next appointment? I had a brain MRI with and without contrast today. So so SO scared I have a brain tumor. My doctor wanted the test done STAT, which makes my fear even worse. Praying I DON'T receive a phone call - as I know that's a bad sign. I know I'm going to freak out every time the phone rings today and tomorrow  :(

My doctors called me back in to have the results read to me in-office.  Since they were totally normal, I'm pretty sure they just wanted my money :P

I've never had a brain MRI, but I have had a head CT for my sinus, that sort of made me nervous (will they see a tumor etc)

If I recall, they just called the doctor and a nurse called me and said it was perfectly normal.

So it could go either way. My doctor usually does the MRIs in the office, and then has the patient come back in for a follow up appointment to go over the results UNLESS you live far away. I live two hours away, so they told me that if I had the MRI in the office I'd get the results the same day. But I didn't have it done in the office, I had a STAT order done in the hospital, so I'm wondering what's going to happen.

I had a brain MRI with and without contrast on Halloween 2007 in the morning. I got a call on my cell phone the next morning at around 8am from my ENT physician to say all was OK. When he called me the next morning at 8am and I saw it was his phone number, I felt like I was going to pass out.

Marc: JUST got a phone call from the office. I wish I could report good news, but they just wanted to confirm appointments. I did, however get reassurance from the woman on the phone. I told her I'm very anxious about this and if I had something serious wrong, would I receive a call? She told me that she understands and she has anxiety as well, she said that I would get a call before the weekend if there was something wrong. I said, "ok, so if I had a brain tumor, I would get a call from the doctor before the weekend?" She said "yes."

So that's reassuring.

Oh yeah, I saw "Neurology Assoc" on the caller ID and almost passed out too. Still shaking, actually.

I had with and without contrast. It took around 30-45 minutes. I kinda freaked out at one point, so he pulled me out. He said if I needed an xanax I would need to reschedule my appointment. Never having had xanax before, I said, "no, lets just do it, I'll be fine" so I went back in and started singing Christmas songs in my head (not an easy thing to do with all of the background noise!" and I got through it.

Holy crap the office just called again to switch my appointment because by the time the receptionist was booking it, it was taken by another patient.

Who needs a brain tumor? This place is going to give me a heart attack way before I would die of a brain tumor!!!

That's not as long as I thought. My cousin had one for a nerve problem she was having and it was of her head and neck I think or it may just have been her head either way, took her 2 freaking hours.

So when is your appt now???

The hard part is the worst I know.

So he thinks you are having seizures,  but did he say what kind?

Sometimes EEG is what shows seizure activity.

I know what kind - simple partial seizures. Where my sensory signals are off - I've had deja vu, strange smells, disequilibruim, ect. Disequilibrium for 10 years, strange smells for 3 years, and the deja vu is new. But i've heard it can be from anxiety as well. So we'll see.

Idk, that's what they're checking out. Right now I couldn't care less about the EEG. I'm more worried about the MRI.
