Anxiety causing frequent urination... ?
« on: June 08, 2014, 03:09:57 AM »
How many of you have this problem? I'm a 28yo female. I've had generalized anxiety for a long time. I will go thru bouts of hypochondria issues too. When I am anxious or worrying about something I notice I urinate more then I will start focusing on the fact that I am "urinating too much" and assume I have diabetes. The more I think about it the more I go.  Seem to focus on how often I am urinating and that makes it worse, anyone ever feel the same? At my checkup in October my glucose levels were fine.

So can worrying about how much you are urinating actually make you have to go more? I'm so tired of this! I had the same issue mid-end of April, no uti. Apparently I got focused on other things and symptoms went away. It's been back for a week now and all I can think about  :(

To answer your question - yes

A few years ago about 1.5 weeks before going on a vacation I started having really frequent urination. Went to my Primary, went to a Urologist, everything was fine. They said I had an overactive bladder & gave me medicine.

Long story short - I took the medicine and was great whilst on vacation. However, when I came back the urination started again even on the medicine! I stopped the meds and once my anxiety calmed down (about a week after my trip) my urination went back to normal.

Anxiety can def cause this and thinking about it will only make you go more

I sometimes have the same thing, and anxiety can certainly cause it, no doubt. Have you been drinking a lot of caffeine lately as well? Caffeine is a diuretic (Which means it makes you pee a lot) so that's why I ask, and certainly one of my reasons for my symptom (I am a coffee fan)

I just went through this.  I was having an extreme bout of HA and about two weeks ago, I swore I had a bladder infection.  I had to go constantly and it was small amounts.  I had bladder infections all the time when I was younger so I thought I could diagnose myself.  The one difference being it didn't burn or hurt.

But I couldn't believe my ears when I went to the  doctor and he said "This is straight urine - nothing wrong here."  Of course, I was disappointed it wasn't a bladder infection because if not a bladder infection, what else could it be?  Ugh.

Well, I guess it was good old anxiety because it is completely gone now.  I'm almost though this particular bout of HA - the only lingering symptom I have is a trembling hand.  But I'm optimistically chalking this up to anxiety too and thinking it too will pass.  Everything else has!

I haven't experienced this issue, but my girlfriend has GAD and pi**es constantly. She's also very skittish. Far more than what I am as my hypochondria tends to affix itself to diseases for long periods of times. Are you 'jumpy' as well?

Thanks everyone. I think when we have a disease we are scared of we essentially make ourselves have those symptoms. Or symptoms that mean nothing we focus on. Like normal body functions such as urination. I can't stop fixating on it! Ugh :(
